Mera, played by Amber Heard, appears to still be involved with the DC Universe and will make an appearance in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Heard’s name has been widely reported on over the past year as a defamation lawsuit involving her and Johnny Depp created a lot of media buzz. The actress was convicted by the jury at the conclusion of the trial.
This gave rise to reports that Warner Bros. (WB) had decided to completely scrap Heard’s part in Jason Momoa’s Aquaman sequel despite the fact that she had previously shot some material.
Long before Depp was swiftly fired from the Fantastic Beasts trilogy by WB while she remained safe, many fans wanted Heard out of Aquaman 2. It now appears that the earlier allegations about Mera being expelled from The Lost Kingdom were false.
Amber Heard’s Mera Not Cut
According to business insider KC Walsh, Mera from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will continue to exist.
Given Heard’s allegations during court proceedings in May that Warner Bros. had reduced her presence in the movie and rumours that the studio will continue to tamper with her character’s importance, this comes as a surprise.
Mera’s part in the sequel, which is said to take up around 20 minutes of screen time, “[hasn’t been] decreased or trimmed at all,” according to Walsh.
“Yes, not at all shortened or reduced. It appears like they won’t be cutting her after all, despite what a source I spoke to earlier claimed.
The actress “remains throughout the film,” he continued, emphasising.
Heard remained in the movie the entire time; they didn’t minimise her time at all.
The fact that cuts were made to other parts of the film rather than Heard is even more startling. The insider revealed that Willem Dafoe’s Vulko “is not in the movie [and] he dies off-screen” and that Ben Affleck’s cameo had been cut from the movie.
What to Expect From Mera in Aquaman 2
Flip-flops like these on WB’s part aren’t all that shocking given that it was assumed Amber Heard would be eliminated at some point. Since that trial, the strategy for the DC Universe has undergone a significant transformation, and with James Gunn and Peter Safran now in charge of the studio, the future is still uncertain.
Perhaps the two didn’t think the cuts were worthwhile since they had completely different intentions for that region of the cosmos.
The Direct was previously informed by sources that Mera would play a part in the sequel by introducing Arthur and Mera’s son to the audience. Though the extent of Mera’s involvement is uncertain, her role in the film almost probably hinges around that story aspect.
Even if Heard is kept in the final cut, the actress herself seemed to believe that the footage she captured only represented a small portion of the original plot the character had in the film.
It’s also unfortunate that Vulko might pass away fully off-screen; this would be a terrible waste of Willem Dafoe’s talents. It may take some time before viewers find out the motivations behind this adjustment, which was probably decided behind the scenes.
At least the actor’s admirers were able to watch him in a comic book movie last year when he dazzled in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
On Christmas Day 2023, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will open in theatres all around the world.
