The manga was first published in Weekly Shnen Champion from 1991 to 1999, where it was serialized. Akita Shoten then collected it into 42 tankbon volumes.

The same magazine then published four sequels under the titles Baki, Baki Hanma, Baki-Dou, and Bakidou.

Let’s explore Baki Hanma’s quest to become the best fighter in the world.

Baki Hanma’s journey

Baki Hanma is trained to become a formidable fighter like his father, Yujiro Hanma, by his mother, Emi Akezawa.

The plot of Baki’s story centers on his quest to outdo his father and become the world’s best boxer.

Baki outgrows conventional training as he gets older and decides to take after his father.

He meets strong combatants on his journey, sharpens his skills in brutal hand-to-hand fighting, and overcomes innumerable obstacles.

Pickle, a prehistoric man renowned for his facile victories over dinosaurs, is one of his fierce rivals.

Eventually, Baki engages his father in a much-anticipated combat, but sadly, Baki loses the encounter handily.

Tragically, Baki’s father kills Emi for trying to save him, which makes him even more resentful and hostile towards his own blood.

This tragic incident just strengthens Baki’s will to forge on and overcome many obstacles in his way to success.
