“Home Team,” a sports comedy film directed by Daniel and Charles Kinnane, is based in part on the life of NFL coach Sean Payton.
Although it did not give much attention to their relationship, Payton’s life with Beth Shuey, his ex-wife of almost 20 years, was mentioned. Among other significant professional moments, Shuey joined the New Orleans Saints while playing with the renowned. Sadly, they divorced in 2012.
BETH SHUEY IS A SIMPLE GIRL FROM INDIANA
Shuey grew up in Morocco, Indiana, where he was born. She enrolled in North Newton Junior-Senior High School where she started her studies and graduated in 1986. Soon after, Shuey enrolled at Indiana State University, where she received her degree in marketing.

Payton and Shuey first spoke in 1990, when she was a student at Indiana State University. He subsequently began working for the organisation as a wide receivers and running backs coach, and not long after that, he started dating Shuey. Payton stated in his book “Home Team”:
“I also met Beth Shuey, a young woman from small Morocco, Indiana, at Indiana State. […] She at least pretended to be interested in my predictions for the Sycamore offence in the upcoming year. She had no issues with my outfit of red flannel and Dockers.”
After some time, on July 11, 1992, Shuey and Payton became husband and wife. They didn’t have their first child, a daughter called Meghan, until 1997, and then they had Connor in 2000. They remained together as the coach’s career developed.
When Payton took the helm as the New Orleans Saints’ head coach, their family relocated to Mandeville, Louisiana. But their way of life was altered when the Bountygate story broke. The couple chose to end their marriage after almost 20 years of marriage.
Basketball is Connor’s other sport of choice, and he often goes to games with his dad. Although they have never disclosed it to the public, the two are close friends and New Orleans Pelicans supporters.
In 2012, the couple petitioned for divorce in a Tarrant County, Texas, court. They split up just before their 20th wedding anniversary.

“Discord or clash of personalities between Petitioner and Respondent that destroys the legitimate purposes of the marriage partnership and prohibits any reasonable expectation of reconciliation,” was how their divorce petition was filed.
