BioShock 4: Release Date, Story, Setting & Time Period Of New Bioshock Game

  • DCS

Two companies, 2K Games and Cloud Chamber Studios, are working on BioShock 4. Given that BioShock Infinite was out in 2013 and that the new BioShock game was confirmed in 2019, it has been a while coming. We expect to learn more about BioShock 4 at E3 2022 since 2K obviously has great intentions for this franchise in the future, especially with a Netflix movie version of the same name in development.

The name of this upcoming BioShock game, which the fans have dubbed “BioShock 4,” is actually one of the most eagerly awaited bits of information. 2K has yet to correct us. Of course, Cloud Chamber (the new firm established to design the BioShock series’ future) will do so in due order. For now, though, you may learn everything we currently know about BioShock 4 by reading our compilation of the most recent rumours and development updates.

Who is working on BioShock 4?

At the moment, Cloud Chamber—a firm established and controlled by the 2K publishing label—is working on BioShock 4. Former Firaxis Games veteran developer Kelley Gilmore is in charge of the studio. Gilmore provided more information about the firm in an interview with GamesRadar+. The team, which includes creative director Hoagy de la Plante, art director Scott Sinclair, and design director Jonathan Pelling, already possesses some “BioShock DNA.”

Gilmore also notes that other members of the team include experienced game developers who have contributed to other well-known gaming titles, like Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed, Star Wars, Battlefield, and Walking Dead. We’re seeking candidates from a variety of backgrounds and experiences as part of our hiring efforts. I’m sure that Cloud Chamber’s rich and varied game development experience will produce yet another outstanding BioShock experience.

BioShock 4 release date is still to be determined

BioShock 4’s official release date has not yet been specified. Since the game hasn’t made any appearances since 2K’s announcement more than two years ago, it might be some time before we do. Interestingly, however, a datamine from 2021 that purportedly indicated a launch date sometime in 2022 first appeared last year. Even if this release timetable appears doubtful, there’s still a chance that the new BioShock game will receive some sort of update at E3 in 2022.

BioShock 4 could be set in an open-world

We can’t help but wonder where BioShock 4 will take us next after BioShock and BioShock 2 submerged us underwater in Rapture and BioShock Infinite transported us to the clouds. Although the upcoming BioShock game’s location isn’t exactly clear to us, a job description on the Cloud Chamber website seems to imply that it might be an open world. A senior writer is needed who can “craft powerful, character-driven stories in an open world scenario,” according to a job posting from April 2021. If this is the fact, the BioShock series would undoubtedly take an exciting new turn.

BioShock 4 will still be a first-person shooter

There wasn’t a lot of information provided in the official 2K press release(opens in new tab) on the path BioShock 4 would take. However, when discussing the Cloud Chamber team, 2K President David Ismailer touched on some of the series’ trademark elements, saying, “We can’t wait to see where its powerful narrative and iconic, first-person shooter gameplay head in the future with our new studio team at Cloud Chamber leading the charge.”

As a result, it appears like BioShock will continue to adhere to its first-person shooter roots.

What about the BioShock 4 story?

We don’t yet have a lot of information about BioShock 4’s plot or where it fits into the series’ overall timeline. What we do know is that the Cloud Chamber team is aiming to “build yet-to-be-discovered worlds – and their stories therein – that push the frontiers of what is possible in the video game medium,” according to a quote from Gilmore in the press release. This hints that BioShock 4’s setting and story are about to take a fresh turn.

“BioShock demonstrated the value that an engaging story and realistic setting can add to a video game. Players engage with it in their own distinctive ways and have memorable experiences, according to Gilmore, speaking to GamesRadar+. We have a variety of ideas on how to best accomplish that, and it will continue to be at the centre of our design vision for the upcoming BioShock.

BioShock 4 setting and time period rumors

Last year, Colin Moriarty’s speculation that BioShock 4 would take place in a made-up Antarctic city called “Borealis” in the 1960s also surfaced. However, nothing formal has been confirmed thus far.

Gilmore mentioned in our conversation that “environments have played a crucial role throughout BioShock history and are extremely important to the gaming experience.” Although Gilmore didn’t offer much more to the conversation, he did say that “there are many creative areas to pursue.” We are eager to learn more since there are so many potential outcomes.

BioShock 4 may be using Unreal Engine 5

To say the least, the idea of a new-generation BioShock game is fascinating. We can’t wait to see BioShock 4 for the first time thanks to its distinct aesthetic and moody atmosphere. Our sense of expectation has only grown as a result of a job posting from May 2021. The ability to “work within Unreal Engine 5” is mentioned in the Cloud Chamber listing for a Senior Gameplay Programmer, which may indicate that Epic Games’ BioShock 4 is using the most recent version of its game engine. It may be a true feast for the eyes if the games being built in Unreal Engine 5 are anything to go by from what we’ve seen so far.

Although no platforms have been confirmed for the new BioShock, we’re interested to see how Cloud Chamber uses the newest hardware to bring the next instalment to life. During the early stages of development in 2019, Gilmore stated in our interview that “one of the nice things about our sector is how much it evolves on a regular basis. We are continuously experimenting with new technologies, innovations, and methods of connecting with and interacting with our followers. Although we can’t yet reveal any specifics, we are optimistic about the prospects.
