Carmelo Anthony Announces Retirement from NBA
On May 22, Anthony shared a personal message with his followers on Twitter, reflecting on his career and announcing his departure from the league. The basketball player remarked in the video, “I remember the days when I had nothing, only a ball on the floor and hope of something more.
“But basketball was my outlet, my motivation was strong, and I was encouraged along the way by my communities, the cities I proudly represented, and the fans. Because they helped create me, Carmelo Anthony, I will always be grateful for those people and places,” he continued.
This is a difficult farewell to the NBA, but the time has come for me to say goodbye to the pitch where I established my name and the sport that gave me me aning and pride. I’m eager to see what the future has in store for me, Anthony said.
The small forward has made the decision to leave the NBA, but he will at least continue his overseas career for a few more months. He will serve as an ambassador in the Basketball World Cup, which will take place this summer in Asia.

Anthony was selected by the Denver Nuggets in the 2003 NBA Draught after beginning his career in college. Before joining the New York Knicks in 2011, he continued to play for the franchise. Later, he had a short time with the Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trail Blazers, Houston Rockets, and Oklahoma City Thunder.
The player finished his 19-season career in eighth place among league all-time leading scorers. He participated in four Olympic games and played in 31 games overall, the most of any American player. At the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Beijing in 2008, and London in 2012, he contributed to the national team’s gold medal victories.
