‘Queer Eye’ on Netflix, which was produced by David Collins and is a remake of the namesake Bravo series from the 2000s, pushes the idea of extreme, personal makeover reality to a completely new level. This is due to the fact that it centres on five professionals (the Fab Five) as they use their knowledge of culture, design, fashion, gastronomy, and grooming to assist people (heroes) in realising their full potential. In fact, Dan Stein, a well-known figure in New Orleans, was one of them in season 7, episode 5. If you’d want to know more about him, we’ve got the information for you.
Dan Stein’s Queer Eye Journey
Given that Dan is regarded locally as either the rudest or the most kind-hearted person ever, if there is one term that could possibly be used to characterise him, it would have to be “enigma”. The 49-year-old has been proudly running Stein’s Market & Deli for over 15 years, during which time he has managed to make it (and himself) the focal point of the neighbourhood. Although it may have been unintentional, he achieved this with outrageous advertising campaigns, ruthless honesty with clients, enormous portion sizes with no complaints, and unfailing compassion for people in need.
Dan was a workaholic through and through, spending more than 80 hours a week, seven days a week, at the deli, which is why he was nominated for a complete overhaul. At one point, this would have been OK, but everyone was concerned when he continued this behaviour after entering his first serious relationship (ever) two years earlier. Truth be told, he was aware that Cara wanted more from their relationship than just sharing a bed, thus his nomination was motivated by his openness to change.
Cara, a successful CEO, hinted in the play that she was torn between being in and out of their affair by saying, “[Dan] is so busy at the deli that he can’t change his clothes and shave his face.” “I’ve only ever brought Dan along to one work occasion. He arrived late and was dressed entirely in deli garb. He immediately sat in one of the seats and passed out. She remained with the former attorney anyway because she was confident that he had been brought up well, that he had a big heart, and that he genuinely cared for her and her two girls; she simply needed to know if she could rely on him as well.
The Fab Five then intervened to help Dan understand that even the smallest acts, gestures, grooming, and style choices can have a big impact on both Cara and life in general. But what really made a difference was that this Pennsylvania native was taking their counsel to heart, was amenable to more criticism, and afterwards expressed gratitude for the experience. In other words, he effectively demonstrated that he would sacrifice anything for Cara if it made him a better man and more in tune with reality through his acquiescence and honest attempts to raise himself through his inquiries.
Where is Dan Stein Now?
Dan had openly admitted in the series that he was in a codependent, poisonous relationship with the deli. “The deli would be my hair if I were Samson. When you’re feeling frustrated, you could find yourself asking, “Is this all I have? Is coming here and never stopping to smell the roses or take a break all I’m supposed to do? By the end, though, the transformed businessman had also decided he could occasionally move away from the deli’s front register to help his own connection with it after 15 years. He had also made a list of all the areas he felt he could improve in for Cara.
We’re pleased to report that Dan seems to have subsequently benefited from the lessons he acquired from the Fab Five and the full makeover process in order to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Without an heir in sight, he is still the proud owner-operator of Stein’s Market & Deli, but it is clear from his social media activity that he is also continuing to put emphasis on his general health, hobbies, and family. While it’s unknown exactly where their relationship is today because they both want to keep their private lives private, we do think they could still be together given everything they’ve been through together.
