In the 1991 Miss Black America Pageant, Washington represented her home state of Rhode Island. She claims that on July 19, 1991, Tyson raped and abused her after inviting her into his room at the Canterbury Hotel. She afterwards went to the hospital’s emergency room and told the doctor about being raped.
