The murder drama “Entrapped” on Netflix is set in a small town in Iceland. When a young member of the Family cult is discovered dead, the case of his missing lover Lina is opened up for inquiry. Lina vanished seven years prior. Police detective Andri Lafsson joins the investigation in the hopes that Ivar’s death might shed light on the disappearance of his girlfriend. The investigation takes many unexpected turns, primarily focusing on the rivalry between the cult and a biker gang that is much more dangerous than it appears to be. In the end, when the true criminal is exposed, Andri’s suspicions regarding the relationship between Ivar and Lina are validated. Here is what transpired between the two of them and what Andri should make of the case’s implications. Spoilers follow.
Entrapped Plot Synopsis
When Andri learned that Ivar, the primary suspect in a seven-year-old case, had been found dead in Asar, where he resided with his cult, he was working in the financial crimes division. The investigation brings Andri and Hinrika back together, and they investigate Ivar’s cult while also examining his prior relationships—the majority of which he had left behind when he relocated to Asar—along with Trausti. The members of the biker group Horns, whose members once knew Ivar, are of particular interest to the police.
Investigating the biker gang uncovers their involvement in the narcotics business. The narcotics section had previously been looking into them, and Ivar’s death links their investigation to Andri’s group. The identity of the informant who had been effectively providing information to the police about Horns all this time is now in risk as a result of this. While Andri and Trausti are instructed to stay away from the gang, a few of their errors cause several blunders and a few more fatalities before the case is completely completed.
Entrapped Ending: Who Killed Ivar?
When the Ivar’s murder investigation gets going, a lot of suspects come into the picture right once. Of course, Gunnar and Horns, his motorcycle gang, come first. They’d gotten into a fight the day Ivar passed away, and given that Horns were notorious for their drug usage and violence, it was simpler to assume that they were involved in Ivar’s passing. Suspicion has surrounded Horns members for the most of the season, ranging from Gunnar to Hopper to Lars. Ultimately, it is shown that none of them had any connection to Ivar, and they are all apprehended for an entirely unrelated offence.
When it is discovered that Ivar had been having a relationship with his wife, suspicion falls on Oddur. But the police decide to cease following this lead because Oddur never knew about the relationship while Ivar was still alive and also because he has a solid alibi. Ivar’s father is the next in line and is made a top suspect after it is discovered that he lied about where he was on the night of the murder. He claimed to have spent the entire night at home, but in reality, he hadn’t arrived till the following morning. His phone was turned off for twelve hours, giving him enough time to travel to Asar, kill Ivar, and return home.
Kristjan argues that he had spent the entire night in his workplace as justification. Andri examines the CCTV footage to verify his alibi, which not only supports his allegations but also adds another element to the case. Kristjan and Bergur can be seen bickering in the video. At this point, they learn that Bergur was extorting Kristjan because he had slept with Lina. Bergur lost his fury and threatened to ruin Kristjan’s life when he demanded more money than Kristjan could give. He visited Ivar at Asar in the middle of the night in order to tell him his secret. To his surprise, it turned out that Ivar had not only known about his father and Lina, but had actually murdered Lina as a result. Bergur, who had mistakenly believed Ivar to be a friend, becomes enraged by this and kills Ivar in retaliation for his sister’s passing.
What Happened to Lina?
Andri knew from the start of the investigation into Ivar’s death that the case was connected to Ivar’s former fiancée Lina’s disappearance seven years prior. At the time, Andri thought Ivar had slain Lina, but it turned out that he had a plausible explanation. He spent the entire evening with Burger, Lina’s brother, who was intoxicated from being involved in a hit-and-run. Andri had to submit to the evidence in favour of Ivar and, more crucially, the absence of proof against him, despite the fact that every fibre of his being told him that Ivar was somehow connected to Lina’s disappearance. Furthermore, Lina’s body was never discovered, making it impossible to ascertain the precise circumstances of her death.
Andri also valued Lina’s case because it altered the trajectory of his professional life. Andri had gotten angry while questioning Ivar and attacked him. He was transferred from Rekjavik as a result of this. He was already troubled by the idea that he would never learn what had happened to Lina, but he also felt bad for having misjudged Ivar, whose life had also changed dramatically as a result of the case. But in the end, it turns out Andri was correct all along. Lina had been murdered by Ivar.
When Ivar’s father, Kristjan, admits to having slept with Lina once to the police, the entire situation is made clear. When they were both inebriated and at a party, a conversation eventually led to them sharing a bed. While Lina couldn’t manage the shame of sleeping with her boyfriend’s father, Kristjan wanted to keep it a secret. She told Ivar the truth, which resulted in a confrontation between them and their breakup. In the interrogation where we learn that Lina was killed the very following day, this struggle is also mentioned.
Naturally, Ivar didn’t react favourably to the information. He’d broken up with her and perhaps some time away from her would have cooled him off. However, Bergur’s hit-and-run the following day caused the situation to shift. He tried unsuccessfully to calm Bergur all night, and what enraged him even more was Lina’s appearance, crying and apologising to him. Ivar murdered Lina and disposed of her body as Bergur dozed off. Bergur never found out where his sister had been on her last day since he was unconscious for a portion of the time Lina came at the location where he was hiding. Without realising it, he cheerfully supported Ivar’s excuse for killing Lina.
Why Does Andri go to Prison?
Bergur seeks to flee after understanding that the police have determined his role in Ivar’s murder. He kidnaps Soley, Ivar’s girlfriend, and makes death threats against her. As soon as it appears that there is no other way to stop Bergur, Andri shoots him dead out of pure instinct. Despite being a police officer, he is not immediately fired for killing a citizen. Everyone who testifies at the trial is in his favour, thus it would have been much better for him if he hadn’t been suspended when Bergur died.
Andri shouldn’t have been there in the first place because he wasn’t the cop in charge of the case. He should have, however, deferred to the other cops there and let them take charge in order to find a method to stop Bergur. Andri doesn’t offer an explanation for his actions on top of that. He believes himself accountable for the killings of Ivar and Sverrir and feels bad about killing Bergur.
Ivar would still be alive today, even if he would be in prison, if he hadn’t acted out seven years earlier. Additionally, Sverrir wouldn’t have been exposed as a mole and the police wouldn’t have intervened in the Horns case. Bergur wouldn’t have had to avenge his sister by carrying out his own version of justice in the meanwhile. Andri is prepared to accept whatever penalty is handed out because he understands the seriousness of his acts. He is sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of manslaughter as a result of everything put together.
