The youngsters are also seen attempting to maintain an uncomplicated romantic relationship, only making matters worse for themselves in the process. By the end of the season, there have been so many events that it is difficult to predict where they will lead the characters. Here, we dissect the resolution and consider the possibilities. Spoilers follow!
Freeridge Season 1 Recap
Since their mother passed away, Gloria and Ines’ relationship has been tumultuous. Gloria thinks it’s time for her younger sister to leave school since she feels like she constantly intruding on her life, especially when it comes to her circle of friends. Their friend Cam, who finds Andre to be excessively clinging, is fighting to break up with him in the meantime. Cam has affections for his closest friend Demi as well, but their relationship is strained by events that occurred when they were young.
When they discover a mystery box at a yard sale, all of these issues between them become even more problematic. Ruby Martinez’s parents, Geny and Ruben Martinez, from “On My Block,” sell the box to Cam. Soon after he departs with it, a woman appears and offers to buy it for an unusually high price. The four pals are quite uneasy as a result of her assertion that the box is cursed and Gloria’s subsequent revelation that horrible things are happening one after another.
Freeridge Season 1 Ending: Is Mariluna Dead?
The teens attend a fairly disorderly Thanksgiving celebration in Mariluna’s home with the Martinez family, Rusty, Tio Tonino, and Demi’s sister, Davina. Mariluna ends by making the teenagers a proposal. She offers to give them a million dollars to use as they choose. A million dollars can also be spent over the course of three months in such a way that nothing is kept. If they are successful, they will receive ten million dollars.
Mariluna leaves to say the Martinez couple farewell while the adolescents mull over this. This is when the elderly woman is first seen by Davina’s lover, Joker, and his gang mate. Joker had previously heard that Marisol and Jamal had discovered the money for Rollerworld, which everyone believes Marisol buried for the children to recover before she passed away. Joker thinks that Mariluna is Marisol, who faked her death and used the money from Rollerworld to start a new life, when he first encounters her.
Mariluna is being threatened by the goons as they demand the cash. She makes an effort to convince them that she is not Marisol and does not possess the money from Rollerworld. They don’t believe her, and when Mariluna pulls a gun in self-defense, things get worse. Later, a gunshot is heard. When the adolescents arrive on the scene to investigate what has happened, Joker and his companion are not present, and it appears that they have shot Mariluna. Does that imply she has passed away?
Despite hearing the gunfire, we are unable to actually see Mariluna’s lifeless body. Her limp body is hidden from view inside the automobile, and we only see her legs. Both the location of the shooting and whether it was fatal are unknown. So, it’s impossible to know for sure if she’s actually passed away. In light of Cinnamon’s prior prognosis, it initially appears as though she may have passed away after all. Gloria thought she was talking about her and Ines when she claimed one sister will be the demise of another. In the end, Marisol becomes the cause of Mariluna’s demise, fulfilling the prophecy. Death was also foreseen, and as Mariluna was mentioned in the first half of the prophesy, the second half would also be about her.
All of this suggests that Mariluna’s demise is very likely. The kids constantly question whether the curse is real, even though the programme keeps playing with its nature. When we learn that this is the first time any of Cinnamon’s prophecies have come true, the same thing occurs with the prediction. Additionally, since we can’t really make out the dead body, Mariluna might only be seriously injured, giving her some hope if she can get to the hospital in time.
Is the Box Really Cursed?
Gloria and her friends learn that Marisol Martinez, Ruby’s grandmother, was the original owner of the box through their investigation into its provenance. The young people assume Marisol was the woman who approached them to ask for the box, so they are devastated to learn that she passed away some time ago. The adolescents become convinced that they are being haunted by the ghost as a result, which further fuels their belief in the curse and forces them to experiment with different methods of trying to break it. Eventually, though, they learn that the person asking for the box is actually Mariluna, Marisol’s twin.
The teenagers’ burdens are greatly reduced by the discovery of Mariluna’s existence, which not even the Martinez family knew. Mariluna also makes it known that the curse is untrue. She and Marisol made it up as a joke. Ines and Demi learn the same thing at about the same time from a medium, who informs them that the curse only materialises if they truly believe in it. It would all come to pass if they persisted in holding onto the notion that it existed and would bring about negative outcomes. The curse, however, won’t have any impact on them if they decide it doesn’t exist.
Similar to this, every other negative event that teenagers think occurred as a result of the curse can be reasonably accounted for. This demonstrates that the curse is unfounded. That, however, still doesn’t stop the awful things from happening. By the end of the season, Gloria and Ines’ father’s condition has gotten worse, they’ve learned that Rusty might have been acting out his emotions, the sisters’ relationship has deteriorated, and Mariluna has been shot just as Gloria is beginning to feel optimistic that they will soon have enough money to pay for their father’s expensive treatment and save his life.
In addition to the curse, the show also toys around with prophesies and ghosts, whether it’s Gloria’s mother (who may have been a result of her heavy drinking) or the medium’s uncle’s spirit, who now resides inside a crooked bowl and frequently visits Demi. Even while there is a way to explain everything, one can’t help but question if the curse might actually be genuine given how frequently these aspects appear in the narrative and how the prophecies come true.
