The captivating end of “Invasion” season 2 on Apple TV+ sets up a more ambitious fight for a possible third installment as humanity’s battle against alien invaders is expected to continue. But mankind loses one of its most valuable resources in the second season finale: Mitsuki Yamato (Shioli Kutsuna). In the climax, Mitsuki is given a significant mission that could put her life in danger. Although Mitsuki happily gives up her life for the benefit of others, does this mean that her journey is over? This is all the information you require regarding Mitsuki’s destiny in “Invasion.” Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Mitsuki’s Sacrifice
WDC President Benya Mabote, Caspar, and General Miller devise a plan in the second season finale, “Old Friends, New Frontiers,” to use a gateway in Idabel to launch a counterattack against the mothership that is in charge of and connects the aliens. Maya consents on Mitsuki Yamato’s behalf when she requests for his assistance in managing and stabilising the portal. When Mitsuki first can’t get the gateway to stabilise, she knows her memories are preventing her from moving further. Mitsuki eventually lets go of her pat and asks Maya not to use their memories to ground her as a result. As a result, Trevante Cole is able to use the portal to infiltrate the mothership and reconnect with Caspar once Mitsuki stabilises it.
But just after Trevante opens the gateway, Mitsuki goes out and loses consciousness. The conclusion of the episode keeps Mitsuki’s fate a mystery. But it’s more likely that Mitsuki is just exhausted and hasn’t actually died. Another possibility is that Mitsuki overused her psychic connection and as a result lost her memories. Still, it is likely that Mitsuki will make it through. One of humanity’s most important tools in the ongoing battle with the aliens is the mitsuki. Furthermore, Mitsuki’s relationship with Caspar remains a mystery, suggesting that she will play a more significant part in the narrative. Therefore, it’s likely that Mitsuki is still alive. She is only unconscious, and her encounter with the portal may have caused some complications, such memory loss.
Mitsuki’s Alien Connection
In the Amazon, Mitsuki Yamato finds herself employed by Nikhil Kapoor during the second season of “Invasion.” On the spacecraft that was knocked out of the sky at the end of season 1, she often interacts with an alien entity. In due course, Mitsuki establishes a telepathic bond with Caspar Morrow and plays a crucial role in helping him advance. As a result of the process—particularly the prolonged exposure to the alien presence—Mitsuki’s mental state deteriorates. After the alien thing causes global tremors, Mitsuki eventually prunes it out of existence. But in the second-season finale, Mitsuki uses her psychic connection to harness the frequencies released by the alien creature she had previously chopped in order to stabilise the portal in Idabel.
The experts in the scene express their shock at the reemergence of data and frequencies that had vanished along with the entity. It follows that Mitsuki must have either absorbed the creature or is still somehow linked to it in order for her to be able to use its power. Nevertheless, considering what we know about the alien species, neither scenario appears likely. It is strongly suggested that the aliens are connected by a collective mind and lack free will, making it extremely difficult for Mitsuki to absorb the alien. Moreover, it has been demonstrated that humans and the aliens are merely connected psychically—not physically. Because Mitsuki plainly destroys the creature earlier in the season, it is highly improbable that she has absorbed it and turned into an extraterrestrial. Thus, it is plausible that Mitsuki employed her expertise and understanding from interacting with the creature to manipulate the frequencies and maintain the portal’s stability.
