Who is Jacqueline Avant?
Jacqueline Avant was a woman of many abilities and was admired and liked by all. She was the wife of Clarence Avant, the music tycoon dubbed “the black godfather,” and she was a person of many talents. She was raised in Jamaica, Queens, New York, and pursued phlebotomy training. Before meeting Clarence, who she later married in 1967, she worked as a model. The couple relocated to Beverly Hills in the same year. Here, Jacqueline lived out the next 50 years of her life. She became well-known for her philanthropic efforts, support of the arts, and commitment to assisting society’s outcasts.
She backed the South Central Community Child Care Centre and served as president of Neighbour of Watts. She co-founded the board of the UCLA International Student Center’s Rape Treatment Centre and served on its board of directors. She funded the Wallis Annenberg Centre for the Performing Arts and sat on the boards of the East Asian Art Council at LACMA as well as the Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena. She also served as the Museum of African American Art of Los Angeles’ board president for two terms.

How Did Jacqueline Avant Die?
On December 1, 2021, Jacqueline Avant passed away at the age of 81. An assailant who shattered a sliding glass door to gain entry to her Beverly Hills home in the early morning shot her three times. After being transported, she passed away at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre. Her husband, their two children, Nicole and Alexander, sister Jean Morse, and nieces and nephews all survive her.
On December 3, the man who shot and killed her was apprehended in the backyard of a house in the Hollywood Hills. He accidently shot himself while trying to break into the residence. He entered a plea of guilty to two counts of first-degree residential burglary with a person present, first-degree murder, attempted murder, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He received a life sentence in prison without the chance of parole, which equals 190 years.
Family and friends of Jacqueline have never forgotten her.
