The skier’s identification was confirmed by the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office. He or she was discovered unconscious on a difficult trail at Wachusett Mountain Ski Resort on March 20.
John Lapato, a 67-year-old resident of Shrewsbury, has been named as the man.
Lapato reportedly slammed into a tree while skiing, and a nearby skier saw him and called the police.
Wachusett ski patrol members responded to the incident and rendered on-mountain first assistance, but by the time they arrived at the bottom, Lapato had already been declared dead.
Officials have sent their sympathies to Lapato’s family and friends in light of the unfortunate occurrence, which has left the Wachusett Mountain community in mourning.
Skiers should take all required precautions to protect their safety on the slopes because skiing accidents can be quite dangerous.
This entails donning the proper safety gear, according to posted signs and cautions, and remaining within their level of expertise. It’s critical to get medical help right after after a mishap, and to heed the ski patrol members’ recommendations.
