At AIMS Community College in Greeley, Colorado, in the middle of the 1980s, Tina Tournai-Sandoval and John Sandoval first met.
John was enrolled in radiology technician classes while Tina, a nurse, was pursuing an associate’s degree in nursing.
In the Colorado Rocky Mountains on December 31, 1991, their romance resulted in marriage.
Unfortunately, Tina quickly learned about John’s dark side, therefore the marriage did not last long.
Just two years after their nuptials, Tina started the divorce process.
She relocated to a new flat and started dating in preparation for the divorce’s finalisation.
At North Colorado Medical Centre in Greeley, Tina told a few coworkers that her estranged husband was a voyeuristic.
He stalked unidentified women from convenience stores for days as a result of this problem.
According to reports, John’s behaviour got worse and he started sneaking into these women’s homes at night, hiding under beds and in cabinets to avoid being seen.
John allegedly stole women’s pants and brought them home, according to Tina.
Police repeatedly questioned John at the Sandoval home after receiving complaints.
In the summer of 1995, after receiving a visit from the police, Tina lost her cool and requested a divorce.
She worried that John might be stalking her after telling her coworkers that she had seen his car outside her new flat numerous times.
John refused to let go despite Tina’s choice to dissolve the union and allegedly made suicidal threats.
18 October 1995 marked the disappearance of Tina Tournai-Sandoval. Her husband, John Sandoval, was accused of killing her in 2009.
Based on the testimonies of past victims and the investigators, John was found guilty of Tina’s murder.
On a technicality, the Colorado Court of Appeals overturned the guilty conviction in 2016, but Tina’s body had not yet been discovered.
A new trial was planned, but John ultimately agreed to a plea agreement in exchange for disclosing Tina’s remains’ location at Greeley’s Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Tina’s decayed remains were discovered in March 2017, almost 22 years after she vanished.
John was sentenced to 25 years in jail, five years on parole, and was given credit for time already served after entering a guilty plea to second-degree murder.
After spending 12 years, he will be eligible for parole in 2020, but it is not a given.
John Sandoval is currently incarcerated at the Trinidad Correctional Facility; his next parole hearing is anticipated to take place in January 2026, and his release date is 2032.
Kelly Fryan, Tina’s sister, expressed astonishment at the parole eligibility date, but experts stress that it does not necessarily mean that he would be released.
