The Vow, a romantic drama film from 2012 starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum, draws inspiration for its incredible love story on the actual relationship between Kim and Krickitt Carpenter. The pair is fictitiously transformed in the movie into the spouses Paige and Leo, who experience a terrible vehicle catastrophe. After the incident, Paige experiences significant memory loss and loses all memory of Leo and their relationship. Even so, Leo sticks to his marriage vows and sets out on a quest to win Paige back despite the overwhelming odds going against him.
In the movie, Paige and Leo have a captivating romance that emphasises Leo’s unwavering commitment to his wife and the promises he made to her on their wedding day. Viewers must therefore be intrigued to learn more about the real-life couple who inspired these characters and their present whereabouts, considering the remarkable nature of their connection.
Kim and Krickitt Carpenter’s Relationship
The real-life couple that served as the model for Paige and Leo in “The Vow,” Kim and Krickitt, really took a quite different path in their early dating. In 1992, Kim, a baseball coach at a university, met Krickitt through a sales representative’s number she saw in a sportswear catalogue. The man chose to call Krickitt after noticing his unusual name, which sparked a dialogue that eventually led to a romantic connection.
The couple’s geographical locations required them to take flights in order to meet in person. But their relationship took off so quickly that Kim met Krickitt’s family just two weeks after first seeing her in person. So, after their honeymoon, the couple was married on September 18, 1993, and moved in together. However, tragedy struck two months later on Thanksgiving when Krickitt was left in a coma for three weeks following a near-fatal vehicle accident.
Kim was even more disappointed to hear that Krickitt had completely forgotten about him. The former made a fruitless attempt to assist his wife in retrieving her memories. Still, Kim made the decision to seek Krickitt once more rather than giving up on their union.
Even though Krickitt never regained her memories, the pair ended up getting back together when they reaffirmed their vows on May 25, 1996, two years later.
The couple went on to have two children: Danny, their son, was born in 2000, the year Kim’s memoir, “The Vow,” detailing their journey was released. The couple’s daughter Lee Ann was brought into the family three years later. Years after their story captured the imagination of Hollywood and served as the basis for “The Vow,” Krickitt talked about the couple and stated, “I chose to love him [Kim], and obviously my love grew for him.” He’s a fantastic person.
Kim and Krickitt Carpenter’s Eventual Divorce
Kim and Krickitt didn’t have a happily-ever-after, despite their idyllic relationship, which was based on the former’s love and respect for his commitment to his wife. Because of Kim’s adultery, the couple ended up divorcing after 25 years of marriage. When Krickitt started to suspect her husband of having an extramarital affair, she confronted him about it, which led to the revelation of his affair. Kim was forced to admit to cheating after he could no longer hide secrets from her in the face of their confrontation.
Recalling the incident, Krickitt told Inside Edition, “I was beyond devastated cause I never would have imagined that would happen to me.” “And I felt the most unbearable pain I have ever felt.” The woman also mentioned in other interviews how she was completely taken aback by her husband’s extramarital affair because she had complete faith in their vow and commitment to one another.
“You spend years and years combatting and trying to fight for something that you committed to, and to go out and do the inexcusable was not… it was a very unfortunate situation,” Kim remarked in reference to the incidents. The man went on to accept responsibility for his terrible deeds, adding, “I’ll always feel the guilt and shame that I have in my character.”
Nevertheless, Krickitt apparently doesn’t regret her relationship with Kim and values their trip for what it is, even with the sad turn of circumstances. In addition, she is appreciative of the children she inherited from her marriage to Kim and the countless experiences they had. Krickitt and her daughter Lee Ann moved into a townhouse as soon as they separated. Danny, their son, stayed with his father in the interim.
Years after their split, both of them are currently going on with their lives. Although Kim doesn’t use social media, her Facebook page provides people with information on Krickitt and her children’s life. Given her frequent posts on social media endorsing Liberty High School, it is likely that the woman still substitutes as a high school teacher. Kim was serving as San Juan County’s CEO at the time of the last confirmed reports.
