In 1855, Lidia Poet moved in with a wealthy Waldensian family. She grew up in the Valley of the Germans. The College of the Misses of Bonneville in Aubonne, Switzerland, gave Lidia her licence to teach high school.

Lidia then got a certificate to teach English, French, and German. After she finished high school in Italy, she went to the University of Turin to study law.

But she got her law degree by writing a thesis about women’s rights in society and the right of women to vote. In Pinerolo, she worked as a lawyer in the office of Cesare Bertea, who was both a lawyer and a senator.

Also, before she tried to join the Turin Bar Association, she got 45 out of 50 on her practicum and a bad grade on her exam. After Law 1176 of 1919 was passed, she was finally able to join the Turin Bar Association again as a lawyer. 1176 of the law of 1919 made it possible for women to work in some public jobs.

The first woman lawyer in Italy was 94 years old when she died in the beach town of Diano Marina. She had never been married.
