James Wan, who co-wrote the script and co-produced the movie, has stated that he hopes to expand the M3GAN universe into a multi-universe film franchise. He hinted to a sequel by saying, “What I will say to that is, in any of my movies, whether it’s The Conjuring Universe, Saw, or Malignant, or M3GAN here, we like to think of a broader world.”
“For me, it’s about developing a larger world and knowing the characters’ identities and the different directions the tale may take before saying, “Okay, I’m telling this particular story, but I know other things that’s going on. So if we’re fortunate enough to have sequels, then we have an idea of where we want to go,” Wan remarked.
M3GAN 2 Potential Release Date
Midway through 2021, the first movie was being filmed. After multiple reshoots to reduce the amount of violence, the movie was finally released in theaters on January 6, 2023. Overall, from the time of filming until the time of release, it took about 1.5 years.
