Mad Max: The Wasteland 2023 : New Cast, Plot & Other Major Details

  • DCS

When it was released in 2015, “Mad Max: Fury Road” set the movie business ablaze and rode its blazing husk across the desert. But it’s been more than six years since The Doof Warrior tore his way into our hearts, and at a time when franchise movies are routinely released once every couple of years, that period of time feels like an eternity. But since “Mad Max: The Wasteland” director George Miller has mentioned wanting to film a follow-up, grab some guzzoline, climb into the old war truck, and journey into Valhalla with us as we go over all we currently know about it.

When and Where to Watch Mad Max: The Wasteland

It won’t be for a long time before Mad Max returns in “The Wasteland,” as casting hasn’t yet begun, let alone production. The prequel movie “Mad Max: Furiosa,” which stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the title character in place of Charlize Theron from “The Queen’s Gambit,” does, however, have a release date: May 24, 2024. This should give series fans some comfort. It’s actually too early to make any predictions regarding how you’ll be able to see “The Wasteland” because it won’t be released for quite some time. Will theatres be the only place it is released? By then, may day and date be the new standard in Hollywood? We’ll all be inhabiting a real wasteland by the time the movie is released, so will the only place to see it be on a cliffside beside a waterfall that only flows once a day? The unknown!

What We Think Mad Max: The Wasteland is About

Miller revealed that he was working on “Furiosa” and “The Wasteland,” two other “Mad Max” projects, in an old interview with FHM.
He answered when asked if they will build atop one another:

“They’ll have a tenuous connection. They won’t be direct sequels, but they all take place in the same universe. We created intricate backstories for everything from weaponry to vehicles to the doof warrior who plays the guitar during the lengthy delays on “Fury Road.” You must assist the audience in learning as much as they can while watching the film since it is quite helter-skelter.”

But in all likelihood, “The Wasteland” will end up focusing on the ongoing exploits of Mad Max, a.k.a. Max Rockatansky, a former police officer who sought vengeance on those responsible for his family’s murder. Since then, he has taken on the characteristics of the archetypal Western hero, charging into dangerous situations on horseback, using violence and action to end the dispute before riding off into the distance.

What We Know About the Max Mad: The Wasteland Cast and Crew

Tom Hardy had a deal to appear in three more “Mad Max” films as of 2015. It’s unknown when that contract expires, but Hardy was infamously difficult to work with on “Fury Road,” so it seems unlikely that he will repeat the part. Since the part has already been recast, it would not be the end of the world if he did not return. But don’t anticipate seeing Charlize Theron reprise her role as Furiosa; according to Miller, she “is not in the ‘Mad Max’ [sequel] story.”

Given that George Miller has already helmed every “Mad Max” picture, we assume he will return to co-write the script with Nick Lathouris and to helm the film. Given how far off this project currently is, he has also expressed interest in having other filmmakers, such as Guillermo del Toro, enter his sandbox and helm a “Mad Max” film. As a result, something similar is possibly a possibility.
