What Happened To Madagascar 4? Is It Ever Going To Be Made?

“Madagascar” was a huge hit with viewers in 2005, grossing more than $500 million globally (via Box Office Mojo). The majority of viewers liked following Ben Stiller’s Alex the Tiger, Chris Rock’s Marty the Zebra, Jada Pinkett Smith’s Gloria the Hippo, David Schwimmer’s Melman the Giraffe, and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Gloria as they ventured outside the Central Park Zoo. Of course, no one could forget the Penguins, who are played by Tom McGrath, Chris Miller, Christopher Knights, and Rico, as well as other significant and crucial supporting figures (John DiMaggio). Nevertheless, in many instances, it would be King Julien (Sacha Baron Cohen and Danny Jacobs), Mort (Andy Richter), and Maurice (Cedric the Entertainer) who managed to steal the show.

In any case, the positive critical and commercial reception led to the 2008 release of “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa,” which earned better reviews this time around. The third film, “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” was then released in 2012, and was followed by another television series, “All Hail King Julien,” in 2014. The last instalment, “Madagascar: A Little Wild,” which recounts the early lives of Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman, was released in 2020.

According to former DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg (via Empire), the fourth “Madagascar” film, which chronicles the voyage of Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman, was reportedly in the works. However, things suddenly changed. Will there ever be a fourth “Madagascar” film given that it is now 2022? This is what we do know.

Madagascar 4 could still be happening

The rumoured fourth “Madagascar” was reportedly shelved from DreamWorks’ release schedule in 2015, presumably as a result of the studio’s restructuring, which limited them to releasing only two films annually (via Deadline). The movie has not yet received an official cancellation. The movie reportedly returned to DreamWorks’ release schedule in 2018 (via Collider), only to be taken off again shortly after. Most likely, DreamWorks has put “Madagascar 4” on hold in favour of other planned projects and the current “Madagascar: A Little Wild” series, and is now simply waiting for the proper moment to release “Madagascar 4”. Contrarily, “Toy Story 4” was released nine years after “Toy Story 3,” therefore anything is conceivable.

Again, “Madagascar 4” is probably still in production somewhere within DreamWorks considering that there hasn’t been an official cancellation statement for the project. After the recent Oscars incident, it will be interesting to see Chris Rock and Jada Pinkett Smith reunite for a potential “Madagascar 4”. In any case, DreamWorks’ decision to broadcast “Madagascar 4” would seem to be a very successful one considering the financial success of each episode of the series. We’ll keep you updated as always.
