Since playing Butch’s girlfriend, Fabienne, in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, the actress hasn’t done much in American movies. Why didn’t the star become popular when she was in one of Tarantino’s most praised movies?
Medeiros grew up in a time of change in Portugal. Her father was a composer and her mother was a political journalist. The actress thinks of this as a turning point in her life. The political and social revolution also sparked an artistic revolution in the country, which led to the creation of new art forms.

This is where Medeiros fell in love with not only acting, but also movies and art in general. Since she was a child, Maria de Medeiros was always drawing or singing to herself. Medeiros released April Captains in Portugal on April 21, 2000, just four days before the 26th anniversary of the events in the movie. It is a tribute to and story of the Carnation Revolution, which happened in Portugal on April 25, 2000. It focuses on the two men who overthrew the oppressive Portuguese government without anyone getting hurt.
The movie was praised by critics in Portugal and around the world, and it would help the already talented artist improve his love of directing and writing. She would go on to direct more films, both documentaries and dramas, and get praise for her work.
After making a well-received film of her own, Maria de Medeiros didn’t stop acting. Instead, she moved to Europe and worked in movies and on TV for the next twenty years in France, Germany, Italy, and her home country of Portugal. Since Pulp Fiction, she hasn’t been in many English-language movies.
