British comedian Matt Lucas revealed on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, that he will be stepping down from his position as co-host of “The Great British Baking Show.” Lucas’ final season of the programme was the 13th, which ended on November 15. Sandi Toksvig was replaced by Lucas for Season 11 in 2020.
“Goodbye, “Bake Off!” Tweeted Lucas It’s been a wonderful experience, and I can’t think of a more enjoyable way to spend my summers, but I’ve realised that I can’t present both “Fantasy Football League” and “Bake Off” alongside all my other initiatives. So, after 51 episodes over three [seasons] I am happily handing the baguette over to someone else.
Lucas went on to express his gratitude for his former coworkers. In addition to [co-host Noel Fielding], Paul, Dame Prue, the staff, and of course the amazing bakers for allowing me inside the tent, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4. I want the best for whoever succeeds, and I can’t wait to watch the upcoming season without knowing the outcome!
Who will take Lucas’ place as co-host has not yet been disclosed by BBC Studios and Love Productions. While some fans will undoubtedly be sad to see Lucas leave, others will undoubtedly be happy.
Matt Lucas’ departure comes at a low point in his Great British Baking Show tenure
The choice of Matt Lucas as the host of “The Great British Baking Show” has always felt a little strange. The programme itself is renowned for its cheerful, welcoming demeanour and dry sense of humor. While this was going on, Lucas established himself by playing characters like the odd roommate Gil from “Bridesmaids” and starring in the sketch comedy series “Little Britain.” Many viewers felt that Lucas’ sense of humour didn’t fully fit the show.
Even worse, several of the decisions Lucas and the show made during the most recent season were contested by viewers. Many people felt that the show’s “Mexican Week” episode was disrespectful. Lucas and Fielding made the following exchange while donning serapes and sombreros and making jokes about whether Mexico is a legitimate country: Fielding: “There won’t be any jokes about Mexico.” “What, not even Juan,” said Lucas. Lucas has already moved on to other projects, as he indicated in his tweet, such as a new season of “Fantasy Football League,” a chat programme where he and co-host Elis James question celebrities about their fantasy soccer teams. I’m hoping that fits Lucas’ sensibility better.
