Back in 2019, the people who made “Vanderpump Rules” had a problem. Things were getting boring after eight seasons of nonstop drama. Also, the show’s main idea had been silly for a long time. “VPR” started out as a reality show about a group of struggling 20-somethings with dreams of making it big in Hollywood who were stuck working at one of Lisa Vanderpump’s LA restaurants.
The show was a big hit right away. Part of “VPR’s” success can be attributed to the fact that, unlike many reality shows, the cast members were friends, which made the conflicts feel very real. It was also different from other Bravo shows because it didn’t focus on the very wealthy. Instead, it was about actors who were down on their luck and had to lease bad cars and live in small apartments. After a few successful seasons, the “down-on-their-luck” actors became successful reality stars and no longer had to go to auditions or work at a cocktail bar. So, producers added three new cast members for Season 9 to shake things up and bring back some of the old magic.
Max Boyens was one of the new cast members. He worked as a bartender at the brand-new TomTom, which two of the original cast members owned together. Boyens was only on the show for one season before he quit in shame. Where is he now, and what happened to him?
Max Boyens was let go
A lot of the original cast of “Vanderpump Rules” was fired in 2020 after being accused of racist behavior in the past. According to Vanity Fair, fan favorites Stassi Schroeder and Kristen Doute were fired after a former cast member, Faith Stowers, said that they had bullied her and made false calls to the police accusing her of a crime, which put her life in danger. Almost as surprising was how hard the producers were on Max Boyens and the other new cast members.
Boyens was fired after a series of tweets from almost ten years ago came to light. In the tweets, Boyens said hurtful things about Asian people and made offensive jokes about them. Boyens was fired, along with the other people mentioned above and a new cast member named Brett Caprioni. “Bravo and Evolution Media confirmed today that Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens, and Brett Caprioni will not be returning to Vanderpump Rules,” the network said in a statement, according to Life & Style. Boyens said in his own statement that he was sorry for what he had done in the past. “I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart for what I tweeted in 2012—it was wrong in every way,” he wrote. “It doesn’t show what kind of person I am. I can’t believe I ever tweeted that, and it makes me feel sick and bad about myself. I really am sorry.”
Even though there was a lot going on, Boyens stayed on good terms with most of the cast and kept his job at TomTom for another year, until he quit for no reason.
Max Boyens has moved on
Max Boyens is no longer with Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz. They were there for Max Boyens while he was going through a scandal at Bravo. For a while, it wasn’t clear what would happen to him at the restaurant, but when he was seen hanging out with Schwartz and Sandoval, it became clear that he was still welcome there. A person who saw the three of them at an industry event in November 2020 said, “The Toms and Max stuck together all night.” “Max’s work has been taken care of by the Toms, since TomTom had to close down because of the pandemic. They care for Max like he’s their little brother.”
Boyens, however, reportedly didn’t want to stay too long. A year later, the Boyens’ departure from TomTom in the spring of 2021 became public knowledge. So, where did he go, and what is he doing now? It’s hard to say for sure because Boyens stays out of the spotlight on social media. His Instagram says that he is the Chief Financial Officer of a liquor company called Una Mas Cocktails. A closer look at his social media shows that he updated his Linkedin in June 2022 to say that he is now the general manager of TAO Group.
Even though Boyens was kicked off the show and quit TomTom, it looks like he’s still on good terms with the rest of the cast because many of them still interact with his posts on Instagram.
