Berlin, Money Heist spin-off series Netflix release date

  • DCS

Since September 3, 2021, when the fifth season of Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) ended, fans have been wanting more episodes. Even though the series is over, Netflix is still making money off of one of its most popular shows, either by making a remake in South Korea or a full-fledged spin-off that focuses on one of the most popular characters, Berlin.

Since the last season came out in two parts in September 2021 on the official streaming platform, there have been rumors that Berlin would get its own show. Alex Pina, who made La Casa de Papel, hinted that the lives of the characters introduced in the mothership series would go on.

Pina talked to Oprah Daily about the spin-off and said, “We do have many possibilities for some spin-offs, yes, and I think that’s because the characters are so strong and powerful. We’ve always tried to give our characters a very complex, multilayered look. So, I think that almost every character in Money Heist has a dual side that we would like to see in a spinoff. We could see any of them in different situations.”

The Berlin spin-off was announced officially in late November 2021, which was before the second part of season 5 was released on Netflix. The spin-off was officially announced by a caption that says, “We’ve already met Berlin in #LaCasaDePapeland. Now it’s time for Andrés de Fonollosa.” We can already say that his life’s spin-off will happen in 2023.”

So, here’s what we know so far about this spin-off series of Money Heist, such as its release date, plot, cast, and more.

What can we expect to happen in Berlin?

As the name of the show suggests, the series will focus on the life of the main character, Berlin, who was born Andrés de Fonollosa. Even though Berlin’s backstory was only briefly touched on in season 5, it is thought that the spin-off will focus more on it. This mysteriously charming character still has a lot of secrets to reveal, like the fact that he has five ex-wives, one of whom is named Tatiana and will be played by Diana Gómez. In the series, he talks about his relationships as the “5 times he believed in love.”

Most importantly, the spin-off will show how close Berlin and The Professor are to each other, since it turns out that they are brothers. It is most likely to focus on their early years together. Not only that, but the spin-off is also supposed to explain how their father met Palermo, Marsella, and Bogotá and how he died. We also expect to see Berlin rob a store on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, where he is said to have stolen 434 diamonds. In the upcoming spin-off, Berlin’s fight with Helmer Myopathy is expected to be a big part of the story.

Pedro Alonso and Alex Pina talked about the upcoming spin-off at Netflix’s 2022 Tudum event. They said, “This is going to be a trip through the character’s golden years. When he was stealing all over Europe, he was in love with someone. When asked what the new series will be about, they said, “Love and heists,” which got fans even more excited.

The show’s creators also showed off the first script, which is called the 33rd version. The first episode is called “Historias de Paris,” which means “Paris Stories” in English. David Oliva, David Barrocal, Esther Martinez Lobato, and Alex Pina are said to have written the script.

Who are the cast members of Berlin?

What’s on Netflix says that the 49-year-old actor Pedro Alonso, also known as Berlin, has already been confirmed to play the same role in the prequel series. Based on Netflix’s video introducing us to the Berlin characters, we think that the spin-off series will have the following cast members:

Michelle Jenner as Keila Begoña Vargas as Cameron
Julio Peña as Roi Tristán Ulloa as Damián
Joel Sánchez as Bruce
Not only that, but since this is a prequel, we can also expect to see some of the old characters from the mothership series come back.

Rodrigo de la Serna as Palermo
Álvaro Morte as El Profesor Diana Gómez as Tatiana

The most recent news from Netflix is that Berlin will be available on Netflix in December 2023. According to the Berlin page on IMDb Pro, filming started on September 24, 2022. But we still don’t know if they’re done shooting or not. Since the show will be on Netflix in December 2023, we can assume that the spin-off show is in the post-production stage right now.
