Are there more wheels or doors in the world? Viral social media debate explored

  • DCS

Yesterday, people on social media talked about whether there are more wheels or doors in the world. Ryan Nixon started the argument with a tweet in which he put up a poll between the two candidates and wrote:

“My friends and I are arguing about the most stupid thing… And I’ll be there. Do you think that the world has more doors or more wheels?”
People tried to explain why their choice was the right answer for the poll, and the tweet got over 4,000 retweets and 2,000 replies.

The debate about “wheels or doors” has found its way all over social media

People had different opinions about “wheels or doors” and brought up new points of view, which made the debate even more complicated.

At first, people argued about things like whether there were more houses or cars in the world. Many people said that most people in the world lived in some kind of house, but not everyone had a car, which meant there were more doors.

Some people even s aid that cars don’t need wheels because they have doors.
But people pointed out right away that the question was about doors and wheels, not cars. This made the option more important.
Many people pointed out that a house or apartment can have more than one door, and a building can have more than one floor. They also used examples like cruise ships and cabinet doors.

Wheel voters countered this argument by saying that doorknobs and hinges are wheels, so every door was cancelled because it would need at least two hinges.

Many people said that the “wheels or doors” debate was similar to the “blue-black or white-gold” dress debate. In 2015, a picture of a dress caused a big debate on Twitter about what colour it was. Others thought the dress was white and gold, while others thought it was blue and black.

The debate ended when a user who had actually seen the dress confirmed that it was, in fact, blue and black.
Many people even had time to make funny memes about the whole thing.

Nixon closed the poll after getting more than 200,000 votes. Wheels got 56% of the votes, but that didn’t stop people from talking about it. In all honesty, nobody knows the real answer to the “wheels or doors” question, just like no one knows the answer to “which came first, the chicken or the egg?”
