Cody Ware suspended amid assault charges
After being detained on assault charges in North Carolina, Cody Ware, a driver in the NASCAR Cup Series, has been placed on an indefinite suspension by NASCAR.
Ware, 27, was accused with assault on a female and assault by strangulation resulting in serious injury by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities have not provided any additional information surrounding the event that resulted in his arrest after he was freed on a $3,000 bond.
According to his father’s company, Rick Ware Racing, Ware was supposed to compete in races at Bristol Motor Speedway’s dirt track over the weekend but withdrew to concentrate on a personal situation. In his place, Matt Crafton took over.
Rick Ware Motorsports released a statement following NASCAR’s announcement of Ware’s suspension in which they stated that they respected NASCAR’s choice and that Ware was completely complying with the authorities while the legal process was being followed.
