In the opening scene of Netflix’s “Never Have I Ever,” Devi Vishwakumar sets her sights on Paxton Hall-Yoshida, the most popular student at Sherman Oaks High. Despite being the best student in her class, she has no romantic success to show for it. She wants to have a boyfriend because she doesn’t have much time left in school before heading to college. Here’s where Paxton becomes involved. Devi has been dreaming about him since he’s one of the most popular and attractive boys in the school; for this reason, she suggests they have sex.
Despite their differences, Devi and Paxton become engaged in a complex relationship that lasts for a few seasons. In the third season, they go on a brief date despite their problematic connection. Here’s what you should know if you’re wondering if they reconcile in the fourth season.
Friendship Over Romance: Devi and Paxton’s Mutual Realization
After getting to know Devi, Paxton began to like her, even though she wasn’t like the females he had previously dated. Eventually, they began dating. Everyone was really taken aback by their pairing because Devi had spent the majority of her school career as an outsider and Paxton was a popular guy. Devi’s self-doubt was what caused a hitch in their relationship. She was astounded, like everyone else, that a man like Paxton could be her boyfriend. This damaged her relationship and made her feel uneasy, especially after she found out he was still friends with his ex.
Paxton ended their relationship even though he liked Devi because he didn’t think she was confident enough in their partnership. He ended things by asking Devi to put herself first before dating anybody else since he knew that she would harbor reservations about him until she felt confident in her own skin. Devi learns later that he wasn’t mistaken. She alludes to their talk when she and Paxton are imprisoned in the equipment room during the fourth season.
Following his high school graduation at the conclusion of Season 3, Paxton enrolled in college. But he doesn’t feel comfortable in this new life and misses Sherman Oaks High and his classmates. He goes back there to help with swim instruction and feels more comfortable. Devi looks to athletics to increase her chances of being accepted to Princeton. She is assigned the duty of being the help because she is not sporty and cannot participate in sports. She repairs things and rearranges things.
They finally catch up when Paxton and she become stuck inside the equipment room. She compliments him on his coaching abilities and informs him about Ben and Ethan. They talk back on their dating days, which evokes memories of the past. When the coach arrives, their kissing session is cut short. Even though Devi and the other students are similar in age, Paxton is instructed to stop having romantic relations with them since he is now a teacher.
Devi agrees when Paxton informs her they can’t kiss again when they next meet. It was a fleeting return of emotions, and Devi found solace in kissing him. She comes to the realization that her feelings for him have vanished. He also admits that their previous spark has faded. They decide to stay friends and acknowledge that they will never be able to reconcile. Even though there may not be a spark between him and Devi anymore, Paxton observes that there is unquestionably a connection between Devi and Ben.
Ben had already stated clearly that he didn’t want to be with Devi at that moment since they were too competitive and he would never feel comfortable with her. He concluded that being with Margot was best for him. But eventually, he ends their relationship. He goes to New York for an internship after graduating, and it’s there that he confesses his love for Devi before it’s too late. In the meantime, Paxton and Lindsay, the substitute teacher, start dating. They had a relationship by the end of the show. The possibility of Devi and Paxton ever getting back together as romantic partners is now completely gone because they parted ways and ended up dating various individuals.
