The show was renewed for a further three seasons after the first two seasons’ success. Fans are asking if the programme has been renewed for a sixth season now that the fifth season has concluded. Find out by reading on.
Will New Amsterdam Return with Season 6?
Sadly, season 6 won’t see the return of New Amsterdam. The fifth season of the show was supposed to be its final one, and it has finally come to an end. NBC revealed the last season way back in March 2022, six months before the season’s debut in September.
“The tale of Max Goodwin, and his never-ending commitment to patients at New Amsterdam, has been inspiring,” Lisa Katz, President of Scripted Programming for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, had stated while announcing the shift.
The actress continued, “We’re very appreciative of David Schulner, Peter Horton, and our cast and crew for their great dedication, talent, and teamwork. The series’ ending was also discussed by Erin Underhill, president of Universal Television, who said, “When I first read the pilot script for New Amsterdam, I knew we had a winner.”
We congratulated Max for upsetting the current quo and for asking his patients the straightforward but meaningful question, “How can I help?” David, Peter, and our wonderful ensemble have handled serious and thought-provoking themes over the past four seasons that have touched on the human condition while simultaneously making us laugh,” he concluded.
How did the New Amsterdam Season 5 Conclude?
In the last episode, Dr. Goodwin orchestrated a challenging operation for a Ukrainian mother who had been diagnosed with a severe disease and had fled the conflict area with her son. He also informed the workers that he would be leaving the hospital and moving to the WHO in Geneva.
David Schulner, the creator of the series, explained how the crew came to the conclusion, saying, “We all were simply trying to find something big and outrageous. Jai, our writer’s helper, is the one who proposed the 50-person surgery. Due to the fact that it features our characters, we immediately realised that was the one. It’s not about a bizarre operation.
It concerns all of the characters that we have featured in 92 episodes over the course of five years. And through this particular procedure, we were able to bring back every character who had ever operated on New Amsterdam. The patient was vital, but our characters were even more crucial, he continued.
Now that the producers have admitted it, the show would get two more seasons. “I still believe that this thing should have continued for a few more years. These characters are incredibly fascinating, and there are still a tonne of stories to be told about them, according to executive producer Peter Horton.
“David created a plethora of fascinating personalities, and I want to learn more about each one,” I said. Currently ranking third on Netflix, we. Horton continued, “I don’t think the audience is prepared for it to stop either.
