One of Us Is Lying,” a murder mystery thriller with a Breakfast Club theme, made a triumphant Netflix comeback. Five high school students—Bronwyn, Nate, Addy, and Cooper—are central to the first season’s plot, which follows them as they witness the murder of Simon, a fellow student, while they are in detention. Jake was ultimately found to be the murderer, but he died at the end of the season as well.
The Bayview Four battle to keep their secrets hidden once more in Season 2 of One Of Us Is Lying, which also introduces more twists and answers to Jake’s death’s circumstances. The season also ends with a major cliffhanger that has us on the edge of our seats in anticipation of the show’s third season.
But before we get started, a big spoiler alert for fans of One of Us Is Lying who haven’t yet watched season 2.
One Of Us Is Lying Season 2 Ending Explained
While the first season ended with the main four protagonists receiving a menacing text from “Simon Says” claiming to know who killed Jake, Simon’s identity as the mysterious blackmailer was made known in the second season. Finally, the Bayview students were able to identify the source of the threats, and it turned out to be none other than Fiona, the new student.
When Fiona first encountered Jake, he was a teacher who had assaulted her. Fiona revealed to Jake that the reason she was in rehab was because she had stabbed the teacher. Giselle Ward, a new student from Bayview High who attended the same rehab, is introduced. Later, Fiona murders Giselle in order to pin the crime on the Murder Club, but she chooses to cover it up by having TJ Forrestor do it since she has a suspicion that Fiona is the one utilising the “About That” app.
After discovering the truth, The Murder Club decided to stop the mayhem Fiona was causing and devised a plan to blame Fiona for Jake’s murder. However, the entire scheme was about to go awry when Fiona set fire to Janae’s boat while Maeve and Abby were on it, thwarting their attempt to get Fiona’s fingerprint on the gun to prove it was the murder weapon. However, the tide turned in favour of The Murder Club, and Fiona was taken into custody and imprisoned there by the local police.
When Jake’s brother Cole paid Fiona a visit in jail, he curiously asked her if she knew why her brother had killed Simon. Fiona hesitantly said that perhaps Simon had known what Jake had done in the past. Later, Fiona was discovered poisoned in her cell, and it has been suggested that Cole may have been involved because he wouldn’t want his family’s reputation to be tarnished. Even though this is just speculation, One Of Us Is Lying season 3 would undoubtedly clarify and throw light on it.
After Fiona was arrested, the Bayview High students believed they could finally move past the condition. The Murder Club made the decision to meet up since they thought their issues had been resolved. Nate gives Bronwyn a necklace with the word “Stay” engraved on it at the celebration as a sign that they should continue to mend their relationship. But when the same necklace is discovered by the police on graduation day next to a crime scene—which just so happens to be their school’s corridor—things suddenly take a startling 180-degree swing.
The devastating cliffhanger at the conclusion unmistakably suggests that there will be more killing, which means the series will get another installment! Bronwyn, did something happen? Does Jake play any role in this? We’ll just have to wait until One of Us Lying releases their upcoming season.
This teen mystery thriller received a mixed response from viewers and critics, earning a rating of 5.8/10 on Rotten Tomatoes, but it clearly succeeded in raising the stakes compared to season 1 and left viewers feeling confused at every turn, making it worthwhile to watch. Even while there hasn’t been any formal word on the show’s renewal yet, a new season is undoubtedly on the way.
