The second season of HBO Max’s historical pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death is coming up, and fans have been yearning for information about Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and his crew’s return. David Jenkins, the author of the series and its creator, has now made a brief preview of the season 2 premiere’s screenplay available.
Jenkins shared a picture of the cover page of the screenplay for the first episode of the imminent return of the series on his official Twitter account. Even while it sounds very intriguing, not much can be inferred from this image because Jenkins chose to have the name of the episode redacted, leaving only the show’s name, episode number, and Jenkins’ credit visible. His caption was far more intriguing and might have hinted at significant changes in store for the second season of the show. Reads the caption: “Who wants their shit f—ked up? because this is taking place.”
A comedy series called Our Flag Means Death is partially inspired on the life of the Gentleman Pirate Stede Bonnet and is set during the Golden Age of Piracy. Bonnet and his unlikely crew aboard his ship The Revenge embark on numerous adventures after leaving his comfortable and simple life in Barbados to prove himself as a pirate. Along the way, they encounter numerous well-known historical figures, including Taika Waititi’s portrayal of Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard.
Our Flag Means Death is not only a starring part in the series, but Waititi also serves as executive producer alongside Jenkins, Garrett Basch, and Dan Halsted. Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matt Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Rory Kinnear, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon, Fred Armisen, and Leslie Jones round out the cast of the show in addition to Darby and Waititi. HBO Max has not yet stated whether or not every member of the supporting cast will return, but we already know that Guz Khan, who previously played Ivan, a member of Blackbeard’s crew, won’t be playing the character again in Season 2.
