Overview of her life
Pat, who was born on February 16, 1942, in Enterprise, Utah, grew up on a farm and in a strongly religious neighbourhood.
As a result of her upbringing on a farm by her parents, Maeser and Marilla Terry, Pat developed a strong work ethic early on.
She thought fondly of the encouraging atmosphere where faith was a way of life.
Pat had a metamorphosis from a shy and reserved girl to a friendly and sociable person while attending high school in St. George, Utah.
During this time, she met Jeffrey Holland, whom she considered to be the most gorgeous boy in school.
They eventually dated for five years, and on June 7, 1963, at the St. George Utah Temple, they were happily married.
Three children, Matthew, Mary Alice, and David, as well as thirteen beloved grandchildren, were a blessing for Pat and Jeffrey.
Supporting Jeffrey’s pursuit of education
Pat had an incredible dedication to his family. She attended LDS Business College and Dixie College while Jeffrey attended Yale University and Brigham Young University to further his education.
Pat received piano and voice instruction from Juilliard teachers in New York City, furthering their musical abilities.
She gave Jeffrey her whole support throughout his academic career and church service.
A Mother to All: The BYU Presidency years
In 1980, Pat became a mother to the whole campus when Jeffrey Holland was elected president of Brigham Young University.
Despite having a limited budget, she worked incredibly hard to give her family a nurturing environment and give their kids a feeling of normalcy.
The Holland family cherished having heartfelt, humorous, and thought-provoking conversations around the dinner table.
A Lifetime of Service in the Church
Within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Patricia Holland dedicated her life to helping others.
She served as Relief Society president four times throughout her life and was actively involved in the Primary and Young Women’s groups.
She confirmed her resolve to support women of all ages in their varied responsibilities when she agreed to advise Ardeth Kapp in the Young Women General Presidency in 1984.
Author and Speaker
Along with serving the Church for a long time, Pat also wrote several publications, including the honourable mention “A Quiet Heart” and “Strength and Stillness: A Message for Women.”
She wrote two books with her husband, “On Earth As It Is In Heaven” and “To Mothers: Carrying the Torch of Faith and Family.”
Numerous people all across the world are still inspired by her strong remarks and persistent faith.
