Where Is Ronald Poppo Now? Two Years After the Causeway Cannibal Attack

FLORIDA’S PALM BEACH GARDENS —
Two years have passed since Rudy Eugene viciously attacked Ronald Poppo on the MacArthur Causeway in Miami, making national news.

To refresh your recollection, on May 26, 2012, Eugene attacked Ronald Poppo, a 65-year-old homeless man.

Before biting into Poppo’s face in broad daylight alongside the highway, Eugene apparently had undressed and was swinging around a light pole.

Unarmed Eugene was shot by a Miami policeman and died.

Poppo claimed Eugene “was talking kind of funny talk” and predicted his demise during the assault.

Following the assault, many people theorised that Eugene’s attack was sparked by the use of the narcotic known as “bath salts.”

Eugene’s toxicology results were made public by the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiners, who discovered that he had marijuana in his system but no other illicit drugs, alcohol, or prescription medications.

In the attack, Poppo lost an eye, his eyebrows, his nose, and pieces of his forehead and cheek.

So, where is Poppo now?

Poppo has reportedly been receiving care at a long-term institution since the attack, according to a report published by Miami news station WFOR two weeks ago.

Poppo had multiple operations to fix the damage on his face. According to the WFOR story, his therapy is largely finished, he is Medicaid-funded in full, and he is permitted to remain at the hospital permanently. In addition, Poppo got a foundation fund donation of $100,000 from the locals.

He has gained 50 pounds, learned to eat and clothe himself, take a shower, and shave thanks to occupational therapy, the Huffington Post reports.

Poppo spends most of his time playing the guitar and listening to the radio and only allows physicians and nurses as guests.
