On May 28, 2007, Michael Shane Hill was found dead on a farm in Iowa. He had been killed. At first, people thought that Shane had shot himself by accident.
But a later investigation showed that he had been killed in cold blood. In February 2022, the show “Deadly Affairs: Betrayed by Love: Sinful Nature” on Investigation Discovery goes into detail about Shane’s death and the investigation that followed.
Shane was born in 1977 in Boone, Iowa, where he grew up. He liked going hunting and spending time with his girlfriend, Jessica Smith, who later became his wife.
Together, they had two children. Before he started working on a sheep farm to be closer to his family, he drove a long-haul truck.
How was Shane Hill murder executed?
Shane called 911 on the day Shane Hill was killed and told them that he had accidentally shot himself while firing his handgun. He died before the police got there.
Later, when they looked into what happened, they found that the shooting wasn’t an accident; it was murder.
The gun found with Shane did not match the shell casings found at the scene.
Shane’s mother, Patty, found some strange things on Jessica’s computer a few days after the murder.
Patty found private messages that Jessica and Daniel Blair, who is Shane’s best friend, had sent to each other. The show says that Jessica and Daniel had an affair while Shane was driving trucks on the road. In 2005, Shane found out about the affair, which led to a fight.
He went to work on a sheep farm with the hope that the affair was over. Messages between Jessica and Shane, however, showed that this wasn’t true.
Eventually, Jessica told the police about the affair during an interview. She also said that there were times when she said she wished Shane would just go away.
The killer of Shane Hill murder
But she said she didn’t mean for Shane to get hurt. Phone records showed that Daniel and Jessica talked on the morning of the murder, and Jessica said it would be easier if Shane was dead.
Daniel was caught, and he told the police that Aron Moss, his flatmate, had helped him kill the man. He said that Aron was the one who shot.
In July 2008, Aron was found guilty of second-degree murder and given a 50-year prison sentence.
He is still locked up in Webster County, Iowa, at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility. Daniel was found guilty of first-degree murder and given a life sentence in prison.
The Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison, Lee County, is where he is doing his time.
Jessica was found guilty of second-degree murder and given a 50-year prison sentence in October 2009.
On appeal, though, in April 2011, the conviction was overturned because some of the witness testimony was hearsay. In July 2008, Jessica admitted that she had tried to plan a murder and that she had helped with the murder.
She was given a sentence of 12 years. Jessica was moved to a work-release programme in 2012. According to the records, she was released on probation for another felony in January 2019 and is still living in Iowa.
