Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 Release Date Announced – Read Full Details

  • DCS

A significant Star Wars: Visions announcement has just been made, revealing the release date for Volume 2 as well as the animation companies responsible for its creation.

A joint statement from Disney+ and Lucasfilm, released by the former, serves as the announcement’s source. It is confirmed that Star Wars: Visions’ second book will be released on May 4, 2023, which falls on Star Wars Day. According to the statement, the second season of the animated anthology series will consist of nine episodes, just like the first one did. These episodes will be created by the following international studios: El Guiri, Cartoon Saloon, Punkrobot, Aardman, Studio Mir, Studio La Cachette, 88 Pictures, D’art Shtajio (in association with Lucasfilm Ltd.), and Triggerfish.

Sith (El Guiri), Screecher’s Reach (Cartoon Saloon), In the Stars (Punkrobot), I Am Your Mother (Aardman), Journey to the Dark Head (Studio Mir), The Spy Dancer (Studio La Cachette), The Bandits of Golak (88 Pictures), The Pit (D’art Shtajio and Lucasfilm Ltd.), and Au’s Song are the names of the episodes (Triggerfish). James Waugh, executive producer of Star Wars: Visions and senior vice president of franchise content & strategy at Lucasfilm, said, “We’re incredibly happy to be able to reveal the line-up of studios we’ve collected. Every single short is amazing, full of the passion, breadth, inventiveness, and principles that make stories truly Star Wars — all the while opening up daring new perspectives on what a Star Wars narrative may be.

Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 Isn’t All Anime

Waugh also emphasised the non-anime episodes in Star Wars: Visions Volume 2, a creative change he had hinted at in an interview from August 2022. The executive producer maintained at the time that Disney+ and Lucasfilm always intended for Star Wars: Visions to go beyond anime and incorporate various cultures and animated storytelling styles. Waugh stated that the first volume of the anthology series’ anime creations was solely owing to his and its other creators’ love for Japanese animation. Since there is so much excellent animation being produced worldwide, he stated, “[P]ersonally, my objective for Visions was to always allow it be a more broad palette.”

However, this does not imply that Star Wars: Visions will sever all ties to Japanese culture in the future. The Visions sub-franchise followed the publication of Volume 1 with a manga adaptation of the show’s fifth episode, “The Ninth Jedi,” which appeared in a May 2022 edition of Shonen Gangan. This is in addition to the anticipated inclusion of an anime episode in Volume 2.

Streaming of Star Wars: Visions Volume 1 is available right now on Disney Plus. On May 4, 2023, the platform will debut Volume 2.
