The family of Steven Groff released the first version of his obituary on Sunday, June 4, 2023. At the age of 58, he went away suddenly. His reason of death hasn’t been made public, though.
He was Julie A. Weidner Groff’s devoted husband. Their 35-year marriage was very successful.
On February 24, 1965, in Lancaster, Steve was born. He was raised on the farm owned by his family by his parents, Kenneth G. and Shirley L. Eshleman Groff.
At Lampeter-Strasburg High School, he graduated from high school in 1993. Later, he entered on his own at Albright College, where he graduated in 1987 with a degree.
Later, in 1991, he received his diploma from the Virginia Medical School. In 1996, he completed his orthopaedic residency at Penn State Hershey.
Steve started his clinical career at KDV in York, where he made substantial advancements in the fields of spine surgery and orthopaedics.
He was a key player in the 2004 establishment of Orthopaedic & Spine Specialists (OSS).
In addition, he presided over it for a long time. Steve’s commitment went beyond his work. In 2010, he opened the first independent orthopaedic facility in York County.
But when he was hurt in a cycling accident in 2011, it put a stop to his career as an orthopaedic surgeon.
Steve and his wife Julie began thinking about their lives after medicine as they underwent therapy.
On their 77-acre farm, Wyndridge Farm, they spotted possibilities in the old barn.
Taylor, Steve, and Julie converted the barn into Wyndridge Farm in 2014.
This location includes a restaurant, a brewery, and an event space. Their main goal was to establish a location where people might gather and celebrate life.
Steve used his financial acumen in 2018 to launch Groff North America and Groff Health, two distinct companies.
Before his accident, Steve and Julie spent many years leading worship at Aldersgate Church, where he was an active member.
He started playing the guitar again as a member of the Praise Band more recently.
Recreational pursuits including boating, jet skiing and motorbike riding brought Steve joy.
The deceased’s devoted wife Julie, parents Kenneth and Shirley, son Taylor S. Groff, daughter-in-law Ashleigh, daughters Hannah E. Groff and Mackenzie A. Groff, and son-in-law Taylor Groff survive him.
He also left two grandchildren, Garber and Opal, behind.
Steve is survived by his sister Lori L. Groff, who is married to Kenn Bennett from Lancaster, and by his brothers Brian S. Groff and Tammy Feyerherm from Mechanicsburg.
Not to mention, he also leaves behind a sizable number of nieces and nephews.
A private family ceremony will be conducted in York’s Aldersgate Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, on June 10, 2023, according to Steven Groff’s obituary.
The arrangements are being handled by Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, located at 1111 East Market Street, York, PA 17403.
