Succession is coming to an end on HBO after five great years. In an interview, the show’s creator, Jesse Armstrong, said that the fourth season of the satirical comedy-drama will be the last.
Armstrong has said that he wanted to end the series on a high note and not drag it out for years. So the ending of the show is just a creative choice. But he also said that the project might be looked at again in the future.
Succession to End with Season 4 on HBO
Armstrong said in an interview with The New Yorker on Thursday, “There’s a promise in the title ‘Succession.'” I never thought that this would last forever. I’ve always been kind of aware of the end. I’ve been trying to figure out since Season 2: “Is it the next one, the one after that, or the one after that?”
He also said that he and his writing team talked about how the show would end before the fourth season was made. “I got together with a few of my fellow writers in November or December 2021, before we started writing season four, and I kind of said, ‘Look, I think this might be it. What do you think?'”
“We could do two more seasons or two shorter ones. Or, we could keep going for a long time, changing the show into something different and making it more varied. Or, we could do something a little bit stronger and more complete and end the show in a strong way. And that was always my first choice,” the person who made the game said.
Armstrong Hinted at Revisiting the Succession World in the Future
Even though fans might be sad that their favourite show is over, there is still a chance that the Roy family could come back. Armstrong hinted in the interview that the show might come back by saying, “The feeling that there could be something else in an allied world, with allied characters, or with some of the same characters is also strong in me.”
“I made the end of the show after talking to some of my co-workers and saying things like, ‘Is there another part of this world we could go back to if people wanted to?’ Maybe there’s something else we could do that would take advantage of what’s been good about how we’ve been working on this. So that’s another feeling that’s real,” he said.
Succession is a Critical and Commercial Success for HBO
Ever since its premiere in 2018, Succession has received huge critical acclaim along with viewership numbers. The show has also won a number of awards, making it an important anchor for HBO after Game of Thrones ends. Armstrong has now said that it wasn’t easy to decide to end the series.
“I’m in a lot of trouble. I like the time when we’re editing and the whole season is done but we haven’t released it yet. I like the time between reigns. I also liked the time when my close friends and I knew that this was probably it or that this was it, but we didn’t have to deal with it yet. “It was a hard choice to make,” he said.
Succession is about the Roy family, who are trying to keep control of the media and entertainment company Waystar RoyCo even though Logan Roy, the family patriarch, is sick. Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Nicholas Braun, Kieran Culkin, Peter Friedman, Matthew Macfadyen, and Alan Ruck are some of the people who are in the show.
