Ted Lasso Season 3 Is It Happening? Why Is It Taking So Long?

The delay in the start of Ted Lasso season 3 has been explained by new information. The dramedy, in which Jason Sudeikis plays the titular soccer coach, has become a huge hit and contributed to the definition of Apple TV+ as a streaming service. The 2018 Primetime Emmys saw more success for Ted Lasso as the programme won Outstanding Comedy Series and Brett Goldstein won in the Supporting Actor category for his portrayal of Roy Kent.

All of this has increased interest in Ted Lasso season 3, which began filming earlier this year. There hasn’t been a clear indication of when new episodes might air, despite fans occasionally receiving information on the status of production and looks behind the scenes. Fans have been curious to know when the popular Apple TV+ series will return because the third episode might be the final one.

What I’m Hearing’s most recent newsletter features an analysis of Ted Lasso season 3 by Matt Belloni. Multiple reports claim that Sudeikis believed the scripts required a considerable rewrite. Because of those lengthy rewrites, the first episode’s filming didn’t start until March. From there, according to Belloni, the series encountered a number of obstacles on the way to completion: last-minute screenplay revisions, character arcs that were changed, weeks-long location shoots, and the fact that post-production takes longer because most stadiums are added digitally. Belloni provides an update on the show’s release plans in the paragraph that follows:

A TV season that was initially scheduled to premiere this past summer blew through its summer production schedule and is still very much in progress. Lasso will likely wrap up around November, according to the most recent estimate I heard, and air in the late winter or early spring. But who can say?

Since fans have been waiting so long for Ted Lasso season 3, almost all of the actors have given interviews to preview the next plots. Hannah Waddingham, who plays Rebecca, has stated that her character will continue to struggle with ambiguity in her romantic life and other areas. It makes sense that there would be a lot of interest in what happened to the characters, especially given the persistent rumours that the Emmy-winning programme wouldn’t last through season 3. The cast has weighed in on this as well, with Goldstein stating that he’d like Ted Lasso to continue.

It’s important to note that delays and protracted gaps between seasons don’t necessarily have a bad side. Taking Better Call Saul’s last season as an example of a successful show that took some time to premiere, the protracted hiatus produced some of the most acclaimed television of 2022 and a heartfelt finale to a cherished narrative. It could be a very good thing, despite some frustrations at the moment, that the writers and producers are mindful of getting everything just right. Given the fairly mixed response to Ted Lasso season 2, that is doubly true.
