How Many The Addams Family Movies & Series Are There? Which One Is Worth Watching?

America’s favourite gothic and macabre family has gone through its fair share of ups and downs, whether it be on the pages of magazines, the little or big screen, or even on television. This 1938-born family of freaks, fiends, and weirdos was the inspiration for both animated and live-action film ventures. They were created by cartoonist Charles Addams.

Tim Burton, the director, said in October that he will revive the Addams Family for a live-action TV series. While everyone wonders who will play Gomez, Morticia, and Uncle Fester in the upcoming movie, you can immediately start watching vintage Addams Family TV episodes and films.

Addams Family Reunion (1998)

The characters that appeared in the 1998 film The Addams Family Reunion.
Addams Family Reunion, a direct-to-video film that served as the pilot for a new live-action Addams Family series, stars Tim Curry and Daryl Hannah as Gomez and Morticia, respectively. The film’s production firm, Saban Entertainment, asked that the plot be tailored exclusively for children, despite the director Dave Payne’s desire to craft a dark comedy.

Even though Curry is excellent as Gomez in this film, critics panned it as one of the weakest in the series.

Addams Family Values (1993)

The Addams Family Values, the big-screen prequel to The Addams Family from 1991, is likewise directed by Barry Sonnenfeld. Pubert, Morticia, and Gomez hire Debbie as a nanny after welcoming a new child; however, Debbie turns out to be a gold-hoarding serial killer.

Debbie enrols Wednesday and Pugsley in summer camp while pursuing Uncle Fester in an effort to steal his money.

Halloween With The New Addams Family (1977)

With this 1977 Halloween special, NBC paid tribute to the original live-action series. The majority of the original cast members, including John Astin and Carolyn Jones, reunite for Halloween with the “New Addams Family.” In the made-for-TV movie, Gomez fights with his brother Pancho as Morticia and he are the targets of a group of robbers.

Scooby-Doo Meets The Addams Family (1972)

The Addams Family left television after one season, and they didn’t return until 1972, when they made a guest appearance in one of Hanna-The Barbera’s New Scooby-Doo Movies. In the episode Wednesday is Missing of Scooby-Doo Meets the Addams Family, Gomez and Morticia mislead Scooby and his crew into watching Wednesday and Pugsley while they have a second honeymoon.

Wednesday vanishes from her family’s gothic home, causing Scooby and Shaggy trouble.

The Addams Family (1964 – 1966)

The Addams Family is first being brought to life on television by ABC. The Addams Family, which ran for two seasons, prides itself on being a spooky yet family-friendly situational comedy that examines the numerous conflicts the titular tribe has with society.

The main cast of the series includes Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Grandmama, Uncle Fester, Lurch, and Thing, who appear in all following dramatisations. It’s also the first to have the recognisable, finger-snapping theme music by Vic Mizzy.

The Addams Family (1973)

Scooby-Doo Meets the Addams Family’s popularity allowed Hanna-Barbera Productions to release the first animated Addams Family TV series in 1973. The Addams family travels across America in their aptly named Creepy Camper in the one-season television series.

Despite the series’ obscurity, Jodie Foster, who plays Pugsley and is only 11 years old, provides voice acting in it.

The Addams Family (1991)

The Addams Family cast from the 1991 motion picture.
The Addams Family wouldn’t return for over 15 years, but in 1991’s theatrical feature by Barry Sonnenfeld, they did so in a big way. It features standout performances by Anjelica Houston, Christopher Lloyd, and Christina Ricci and has been updated for contemporary audiences.

The main character of the story is a loan shark who tries to rob the Addams family of their enormous money and material things.

The Addams Family (2019)

With their blockbuster computer-animated project from 2019, Universal Pictures introduced the Addams Family to a new generation of young viewers, vastly outperforming its budget at the box office. Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron are among the A-list actors who voice the iconic family in The Addams Family.

In the movie, The Addams Family is tormented by a reality TV producer who wants to get rid of Morticia and Gomez in order to make her programme Assimilation a success.

The Addams Family 2 (2021)

The computer-animated Addams Family will make a comeback on the big screen in 2021. Several of the voice performers from the first movie return for this sequel, continuing the legacy. Additionally joining the cast will be Bill Hader and Javon “Wanna” Walton.

The Addams Family Fun-House (1973)

Despite just having a single episode, The Addams Family Fun-House is infamous among fans. The goal of this ABC production was to give the Addams Family saga a musical twist by using real performers to portray the family members and act as hosts of a frightening variety show.

Although a new generation of actors, such as Liz Torres and Jack Riley, were cast, the concept was never turned into a television series.

The Addams Family: The Animated Series (1992 – 1993)

The Addams Family: The Animated Series aired on ABC in 1992 as one of their Saturday morning cartoons, coinciding with the release of the well-liked film. It has two seasons and features the family acting out typical sitcom shenanigans at home.

Like in other family comedies, everyone usually works together to find a solution at the end.

The New Addams Family (1998 – 1999)

This American-Canadian revival based on the 1998 film is being produced by Saban and Shavick Entertainment. The New Addams Family, a sitcom of 65 episodes, was terminated after its first year. In this role, John Astin—the original actor to play Gomez—returns as Grandpa Addams.
