In The Brave Ones, a young woman discovers how to use her divine abilities to revenge the death of her sister and prevent the extinction of her people. Netflix is currently streaming the show.
Plot summary
Ntsiki is attempting to rebuild her life in the village of Ilanga by putting her previous life, in which she worked two jobs, behind.
Her sister Funeka, on the other hand, is actively opposing the developers who are displacing locals to make room for a huge casino.
In the meantime, workers building a casino find two old bracelets. The wristbands will first be evaluated by the developer, Luthando, to determine their value before being donated to the government.
Ayanda, his wife, worries that their younger kid may be afflicted by the same disease that killed their older son.
She finds out through her uncle Ndyebo about the Tree of Life, which is situated in Ilanga. Before the Brave One is reincarnated, she wants the evictions to happen.
Ayanda learns that the bracelets they uncovered are the Brave Ones’ weapons at the occasion in the national museum where Luthando is donating the bracelets.
Due to her propensity for stealing, Ntsiki, a server working at the event, takes a bracelet from the host.
Later on that evening, a couple security personnel break into Ntsiki’s house and demand the bracelet back from her.
Before they could return the jewellery, three bikers came and attacked Funeka and Ntsiki. Funeka confronts Ntsiki about her pledge to never steal again.
After a miraculous recovery from the fatal attack, Ntsiki finds out that her sister Funeka has passed away.
Ayanda visits her uncle Ndyebo, who thinks the disorder in Ilanga, the red moon, and the discovery of artefacts demonstrate that the Brave One has come back to protect the Tree of Life.
Ayanda must provide the artefacts to the Brave One in order for him to treat her kid because only his blood can do it.
Ntiski begins to experience dreams related to her sister’s passing. Her father suggests that she speak with the healer Nosisa who can assist her with the nightmares.
Ntsiki ends up showcasing her skills when she visits Nosisa. When the healers learn that Ntsiki is the Brave One, they choose to instruct her in age-old practises.
When Ntsiki learns that Nkosi has vanished and that a dishonest councillor, Nkomo, is to blame, she goes after him and uses her supernatural abilities to kill him.
The son of Councilor Nkomo, Cebo, finds out that Ntsiki killed his father. He lures Ntsiki into his trap by using her boyfriend, Siya, and then kidnaps her.
Later that evening, Cebo imprisons Ntsiki and Siya in the van before lighting it on fire and killing both of them. Ntsiki travels to the afterlife, where the spirit of her sister implores her to utilise her abilities to save the inhabitants of Ilanga.
The Brave Ones ending explained in detail:
Who are Ntsiki’s biological parents?
When Nosisa receives a visit from Ntsiki’s parents in search of her daughter, she lets Ntsiki know that they are not her original parents.
They found her on the street and raised her. According to Nosisa, Ntsiki descended from the Tree of Life.
Ayanda reveals that she is her biological mother when Ntsiki returns to the living world.
Twenty years prior, Ayanda’s mother and sister had informed her that her daughter was The Brave One. She would have to pass away for the world to be better.
Ayanda resisted and killed her mother in an effort to protect her daughter. But when she ran, she had to leave her daughter behind.
Up until recently, she made attempts to locate her daughter but was unsuccessful. Then, the ghost of her late uncle let her know that her daughter was still alive.
Does Ntsiki save the village and her brother?
Ayanda says that twenty years ago, when she saved Ntsiki, her mother’s spirit cursed her children.
Both of her sons passed away; the second will pass away on his birthday. The only person who can free her mother’s curse and save him is Ntsiki.
Ntsiki hears her request and dons the vintage bracelets that Ayanda brought over. She gathers the inhabitants of Ilanga and reasserts her entire authority.
She exhorts them to resist the forces of evil and keep their land from being taken by wealthy landowners.
All of the Ilanga inhabitants are united in their opposition to the police brigades and construction crews. Political pressure compels Luthando to abandon his plan to build a casino.
After saving the town, Ntsiki meets her mother again and makes a commitment to improving the world.
Ayanda, in the meantime, does a ceremony in an effort to contact her mother’s spirit in order to save her child.
But her mother’s ghost tricks her and seizes control of her body to murder Ayanda and the infant.
In an effort to save her brother, Ntsiki arrives on time and utilises her abilities to drive the demon from Ayanda’s body.
What happens to Ntsiki?
Ayanda cautions Ntsiki that Nosisa is the reason she had to give Ntsiki away as a newborn after she saves her brother Lindani. Ntsiki was to be sacrificed in order for Nosisa to have complete control over her.
While everything is happening, Nosisa discovers a sacred blade that was created many years ago by the first wise one.
Ntsiki seeks clarification from Nosisa. When Nosisa is questioned about Ayanda’s claims, Nosisa reveals her genuine motivation.
Ntsiki struggles against her, but Nosisa’s help stabs her with a sacred blade. Ntsiki lies on the ground at the end of the season, her golden radiance fading from her eyes.
