In “The Crowded Room” on Apple TV+, Danny Sullivan finally catches up with reality, revealing the truth. Up until this point, Danny thought that people like Ariana and Jack were his buddies who appeared in his life at precisely the right time. After conducting interviews for weeks and failing to convince Danny of the truth, Rya Goodwin gives up and chooses to approach him with the facts. This brings Danny to a terrifying realisation as we witness the battle taking place inside his skull as many identities attempt to gain control. What the ending entails for him is as follows. Spoilers follow.
The Crowded Room Episode 7 Recap
Rya was aware that Danny needed to be made aware of the reality gradually after learning that he had numerous personas. The ideal strategy was for him to be shown the truth by one of his personalities. But as time goes on and Danny’s trial date draws nearer, Rya is forced to tell Danny herself. She displays to him the Rockefeller Center’s CCTV footage from that particular day. Danny can be seen shooting at people in the footage before escaping the murder site.
Danny thought Ariana had been with him that day and doesn’t understand what Rya is saying. Yitzhak takes control and threatens Rya as he begins to digest the situation. Danny finds himself outside the barn in the meantime. It is much larger inside than it was outside when he entered. He digs deeper and soon finds Jack, Yitzhak, Mike, and Jonny at odds with one another. When he realises that he is sleeping in a room corner, his uncertainty only grows.
The personalities become unsettled when Danny suddenly appears inside the barn. Jack is adamantly opposed to allowing Rya to establish Danny’s mental illness. Jack appears at the preliminary hearing and presents Danny as being in perfect health. Rya and Stan, his attorney, had pleaded insanity in an effort to get Danny committed to a mental institution rather than sent to prison. Danny is, however, deemed to be completely competent by the judge, and the trial will proceed as scheduled.
The Crowded Room Episode 7 Ending
Danny’s mind divided into various personalities as a means of survival. Every character has a function. Mike is the regular one, Yitzhak is the muscle, Jack is the father figure, Jonny helped him sell drugs to gain money, and Ariana helped him deal with his loneliness. Danny was unaware that these were his versions and not other people, for a long time. His egos developed a life of their own over time and now see themselves as distinct creatures.
Rya informed Jack she wanted to assist Danny when they first spoke. Jack believed she could free Danny from jail, but he becomes concerned when he learns that this could mean being admitted to a mental hospital. Jack is aware that once Danny’s illness is recognised, the medical professionals will begin to treat him, which will entail eliminating Danny’s various personas. They would force Danny to let go of his alter personas, erasing Jack and the others from his memory. In a sense, this would be killing them.
Someone has to take command and choose the personality Danny needs at any given time out of all the ones within Danny’s head. This duty has been assumed by Jack, giving him a sense of authority over Danny. Jack would have to give up that control if Danny was taken to the hospital. Even if it meant Danny would have to do time in jail, he wasn’t prepared for that. Yitzhak thinks that they ought to let Danny receive treatment so that he may face the truth and venture out into the world by himself. Jack kills Yitzhak because he disagrees with him and believes that Yitzhak would try to thwart his goals.
Jack’s actions are risky since they demonstrate that the personalities have their own sense of survival. They are now more worried about themselves than Danny. Despite being warned to avoid the spotlight because of his drug usage problems, Jonny gets Danny in trouble with the law. Mike and Ariana also don’t want to vanish from Danny’s memory.
The vast majority of undesirables lying dead in the bottom of the barn are evidence that Jack’s ambition to be alive and in charge has reached an all-time high. Over the years, Danny has created a variety of identities for various circumstances. As long as they continued to be useful, these personalities were allowed to exist. Jack (supposedly) would murder them if they posed a threat to Danny. In addition, if the personality attempted to oppose Jack, he would kill them.
Danny arrives in the barn in the morning, and Jack notices that Rya’s comments have begun to soak into Danny. He is aware that Danny will come to terms with the facts eventually. Additionally, he is aware that Rya was able to tell which personality was in charge. Jack chooses to let Danny know about the issue in the hopes that Rya will be made to do what Danny requests if he is to be left alone. He and the others warn Danny about the repercussions of entering a mental hospital and prepare him for it. Danny needs to convince Rya to stop since they keep saying that Danny’s survival depends on their survival. But things don’t turn out as expected.
When Rya arrives for the interview, she assumes she is speaking to Jack and begins yelling at him for making her feel uncomfortable during the preliminary hearing. Danny then turns to her in a whisper, pleading with her to assist him because he is hearing voices. This demonstrates that Danny is now aware of the situation and is dissatisfied with it. He wants the individuals in his head to leave because he is afraid of them. Fearing that the people inside his head could hear him, he cries out to Rya for assistance while whispering.
This is a significant setback for Jack’s strategy and a victory for Danny and his defence. The personalities, notably Jack, have had a strong hold over Danny’s mind over the years, so they won’t let go of him so quickly. Things will now become more difficult for him as they attempt to grab control away from him. Even so, he has already made the crucial first step towards obtaining the support he requires.
