The Day Before, the open-world MMO that is most popular on Steam, has been delayed due to an engine change. The game will now launch on March 1, 2023, as opposed to its original date of June 21, 2022.
The highly anticipated game’s creators, Fntastic, shared the news of the postponement with IGN, where they also stated that the game would switch to the freshly released Unreal Engine 5. The developers also sent IGN with a statement regarding the altered engine and launch window, which reads as follows:
The Day Before is one of the most eagerly awaited video games in the world because to the millions of individuals who have added it to their wish lists. We are grateful and aware of the immense responsibility we bear, and we are happy to announce that “The Day Before” will be using the brand-new Unreal Engine 5 technology. The shift to a more sophisticated and adaptive open worlds engine will enhance “The Day Before’s” excellent gameplay. In this regard, we thus provide you notice that the game’s new release date is March 1st, 2023.
Following a number of other high-profile titles’ decisions to switch from the engine used in earlier games to the cutting-edge engine, this announcement of the game switching to Unreal Engine 5 continues the trend of games beginning to use the new engine. The most recent adjustment was made at the beginning of April when it was announced that Unreal Engine 5 would replace the in-house Foundation Engine in Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming Tomb Raider game. As part of the launch of a “new narrative” for The Witcher franchise, CD Projekt Red also revealed in late March that they will be switching from their long-running, internal REDengine to use Unreal Engine 5.
But out of all these games, The Day Before’s change is unquestionably the most unexpected because Fntastic shared numerous videos and trailers for The Day Before, and the original release date was just a month away. This is because the games previously mentioned are still in the early stages of development and have been using the new engine from the beginning of their projects. The game was already striving to showcase stunning visuals before it was delayed, including 4K raytracing in the game in a teaser four months ago.
In the massively multiplayer online game The Day Before, players must eke out an existence in what’s left of a post-pandemic America. The gameplay of the game has been demonstrated, and it features third-person shooting and vehicle movement in a range of environments and locations, including cities, mountains, and a big mall. To survive in this zombie-infected environment, players will need to scrounge for materials, tools, and supplies. In addition, as players come across “survival colonies” where they can connect with other players, the game will offer community and base-building capabilities.
On March 1, 2023, The Day Before will finally be released on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
