After 10 seasons, the popular ABC family comedy The Goldbergs is coming to an end. The show will end with the currently airing season 10 finale episode, which will also act as the series finale, according to the network.
The Goldbergs, a semi-biographical drama written and directed by Adam F. Goldberg, is based on the creator’s life and depicts the 1980s through the eyes of his Jewish family. The show has been on ABC the longest of any scripted comedies.
The Goldbergs to End After 10 Seasons
The End of The Goldbergs Following ten seasons, ABC announced the news with a special cast farewell video. In response to the show’s closure, Craig Erwich, president of ABC Entertainment, Hulu, and Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals, said, “We are very happy of the 10 years we were fortunate to spend with The Goldbergs.”
“This is an amazing crew, and we are so appreciative of the happiness and entertainment they provided to so many people during this time. In the coming weeks, we anticipate celebrating their epilogue with the fans,” Erwich added.
It’s been an honour to be a part of ‘The Goldbergs’ for the past ten years,’ Wendi McLendon-Covey, who plays Beverly Goldberg, said in a statement. I’m really grateful to have had such a fulfilling experience, and I’m quite proud of what we were able to accomplish with the performance. Every single member of the crew and my TV family will be missed.
She continued, “We are grateful to our talented authors for consistently providing us with thoughtful story arcs and for working so cooperatively. Many thanks to the top EPs in the field. And thanks to all of our Goldnerd fans for being so kind and encouraging. I have a full heart. But I fervently hope that for the rest of my life, I never again see a set of shoulder pads.
The Series had been Facing Troubles for the Last Few Years
The linear ratings have steadily declined in recent seasons, which is the primary cause for The Goldbergs’ cancellation, despite the show’s enormous popularity in its first few seasons. Moreover, Sony Pictures Television produces the show, so ABC only has little ownership.
Add to that the exorbitant licence costs, which made it even more challenging to keep the show going. The cast has also undergone alterations. Regrettably, George Segal, who portrayed Albert “Pops” Solomon, passed away in 2021. Jeff Garlin, who played Murray Moshe Goldberg, was sacked from the show the same year as a result of many HR complaints.
Adam F. Goldberg, the project’s original developer, also abandoned it a few years ago after his contract with Sony expired in search of bigger chances at Disney. The show lost its feel and was unable to engage the audience as it once did due to a lack of sources and Goldberg’s home recordings.
The Goldbergs also stars Sam Lerner as Geoff “Madman” Schwartz, Hayley Orrantia as Erica Dorothy Goldberg, Judd Hirsch as Ben “Pop Pop” Goldberg, and Dan Fogler as Marvin Goldberg. Sean Giambrone plays Adam Frederick Goldberg, Troy Gentile plays Barry Norman Goldberg, Erica Dorothy Goldberg is played by Hayley Orrantia, and Sam Lerner plays Barry Norman Goldberg.
There are new episodes of The Goldbergs season 10 airing on ABC every Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. On May 3, the series’ conclusion will be shown.
