The Handmaid’s Tale 5 Returning This Week (14th Sep) | Season 6 Confirmed To Be The Last

The popular Hulu series “The Handmaid’s Tale” has been renewed for a sixth and final season before the start of season 5 this month. Elisabeth Moss has been guiding us through the dystopian not-so-distant future envisioned by author Margaret Atwood, in which religious fascists rule supreme and women who are able to procreate are treated as breeding stock, for the past five years.

Although it turned out that the show would not conclude in the fifth season, the second half of season 5 was reportedly written as a setup for the grand finale, thus the statement is neither stunning nor unexpected. Not to mention that “The Testaments,” another Atwood adaptation that Hulu confirmed would not air until “The Handmaid’s Tale” was finished, is still being discussed.

Stretching out June and Gilead’s journey through a sixth season would be superfluous because the plot seems to be coming to a natural conclusion.

The repercussions of June killing Commander Waterford is a major theme of the fifth season, as is June’s struggle to adapt to a new life and identity. Serena Joy, who is now widowed, makes the most of her husband’s passing to gain notoriety around the world despite having little idea how to rise to a position of authority. While Commander Lawrence and Nick are working hard to reform Gilead, Gilead’s influence is unfortunately beginning to spread to Canada, endangering the struggle June, Luke, and Moira set out to win.

An acclaimed run for the ages

Since its release on Hulu in 2017, “The Handmaid’s Tale” has been a fan favourite and a critical darling, winning 15 Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series for its first season. Bruce Miller (“ER,” “Eureka,” “The 100”), who is also working on “The Testaments,” devised the programme. Elisabeth Moss, Bradley Whitford, Yvonne Strahovski, Max Minghella, O-T Fagbenle, Samira Wiley, Ann Dowd, and Madeline Brewer have all received recognition for their performances throughout the series. Alexis Bledel, a series regular, was honoured with an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series but left the programme after season 4.

Uncountable changes have been made to pop culture as a result of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” with the traditional white bonnets (also known as “wings”) and red cloaks emerging as iconic symbols of protest for many activists desperately trying to stop our current world from edging a little too close to Gilead’s practises. We can only hope that “The Handmaid’s Tale” will live on as a work of fiction long after the television series has ended.

On September 14, 2022, solely on Hulu, the penultimate season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” will make its debut.
