The Traitors are returning! Following the popularity of the first season, Peacock decided to renew the reality series for a second season. The show follows 20 contestants as they compete against one another for cash prizes, including 10 faithful and 10 traitors.
On January 12, 2023, the ten-episode inaugural season made its debut. Scottish actor Alan Cumming served as host. The game show, which is based on the Dutch television program De Verraders, is being hailed as Peacock’s top original reality show.
The Traitors Renewed for Season 2 on Peacock
The Traitors is an ambitious, highly addictive, and spontaneous format that keeps contestants and viewers on their toes, according to Corie Henson, executive vice president of entertainment unscripted content at NBCUniversal, who announced the renewal.
She continued, “Alan Cumming is a dapper genius, Studio Lambert’s creators are master storytellers, and the show has the ideal blend of drama and intrigue to keep our Traitors and Faithfuls clamoring for more.
“We enormously loved producing the US version of this blockbuster format with NBC and giving Peacock’s audience a very binge-able murder mystery game full of intrigue and dramatic surprises,” said Stephen Lambert, CEO of Studio Lambert.
In a way that is both revealing and amusing, he continued, “This is the game that reveals how people assess one another, frequently jumping to unjustified conclusions. We’re happy to be making a second season with Alan as together we build on the popularity of the first.”
A Reunion Special will be Released Featuring First Season Contestants
The cast of the first season will come back for a reunion special, which was also announced by the streaming service. On February 28, the episode will be made available. The contestants won’t meet again until this point after the finals.
Twenty contestants competed on the reality show, and the host chose three of them as “Traitors.” The cast had to overcome a number of obstacles in order to identify the traitors among them. A $250,000 cash prize would have been theirs to keep if they had been successful; otherwise, the money would have gone to the traitors.
Famous contestants from past reality programs mixed along with regular folks during the first season. Survivor: Panama’s Cirie Fields, The Bachelorette 8’s Arie Luyendyk Jr., Below Deck’s Kate Chastain, Survivor: Palau’s Stephenie LaGrossa, Big Brother 12’s Rachel Reilly, and Cody Calafiore were among the contestants.
Along with Kyle Cooke from Summer House, Brandi Glanville from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Reza Farahan from Shahs of Sunset, Andie Vanacore, Christian de la Torre, Shelbe Rodriguez, Anjelica Conti, Amanda Clark-Stoner, Ryan Lochte, Michael Davidson, Azra Valani, Robert Nieves, and Geraldine Moreno were also cast members.
When it was released, The Traitors created a lot of attention and received favorable reviews from both reviewers and viewers. On rotten tomatoes, the program gets a 95% approval rating. Toni Ireland, Sam Rees-Jones, Stephen Lambert, Mike Cotton, Jack Burgess, and Tim Harcourt are among the executive producers. The reality program was produced by Studio Lambert.
