It is confirmed that Toy Story 5 will take place. Three significant sequels are now being worked on at Disney, and a fifth Toy Story, Zootopia 2, and Frozen 3 are among them. Even though the first four movies have all been huge hits, some fans may still be surprised that Toy Story 5 is going into production because the fourth film seemed to wrap up the plot quite neatly.
In any case, the toys are returning, and among them will be the familiar Buzz Lightyear that viewers have grown accustomed to from the first four movies. Tim Allen posted a picture of Buzz Lightyear on Twitter after hearing the news and talked about playing the character once again. This appears to formally put an end to rumours that Allen was done portraying Buzz. It also confirms that Allen is back in the role of Buzz.
The tweet by Allen says, “Woody, I’ll see you soon. You’re a sad, odd little man, and you have my sympathy. We then proceed to number 5! to the horizon and beyond!”
See ya soon Woody, you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity. And off we go to a number 5! To infinity and beyond! pic.twitter.com/bwRzE487Vi
Tim Allen Returns to the Role with Chris Evans’ Run Likely Already Done
Fans may have assumed that Allen’s tenure as Buzz Lightyear was coming to an end because the character underwent significant modifications after Toy Story 4. Buzz was the centrepiece of Lightyear, a standalone spinoff from last year, but this Buzz was obviously not the action figure that Andy received in Toy Story. Instead, the movie was portrayed as an internal Buzz Lightyear production, the kind that would have served as the model for the toy line that produced the more well-known Buzz.
Buzz Lightyear was voiced by Chris Evans in that movie. This choice had generated debate even before the film’s premiere because so many fans were used to hearing Allen play the role of Buzz. Even if the movie followed a different version of Buzz, there was still a gap, which may have led to Lightyear’s box office failure. Any initial plans for Lightyear 2 have probably been killed off by the film’s flaws, and possibly this has also caused Disney to change its mind and return to the tried-and-true formula for the Toy Story series.
A release date for Toy Story 5 has not yet been determined.
