Despite some of its contentious moments, the HBO popular series Game of Thrones is recognised for leaving a lasting impression on its audience. Fans of Game of Thrones were eager for more drama when House of the Dragon, the fantasy prequel to the series, was released on August 21.
And it appears that they weren’t let down. The most recent installment, episode six, introduces viewers to Ty Tennant’s portrayal of Prince Aegon Targaryen II. But, it’s claimed that the episode’s royal character caused a stir with his performance, with people tweeting about their amazement and discomfort at viewing an explicit sequence starring Tennant.
Let’s not, however, jump the gun. The English actor, 20, will also be seen in episode 7 of the series. and even sway the opinions of fans.
So, outside of George R.R. Martin’s make-believe universe, who is Tennant and what do we currently know about him?
He comes from a line of Doctor Who actors
David Tennant, a 51-year-old Scottish actor best known for playing the iconic Doctor Who, has an adoptive son named Ty (The Tenth Doctor). Georgia Tennant (née Moffett), who gave birth to him when she was just 17, is listed on her IMDB as being 37 years old.
According to The Independent, she met David while working on the same show. According to Hollywood Life, the year after the couple wed, 2011, David formally adopted Ty. Georgia changed Ty’s name from Ty Moffett to Ty Tennant the next year.
Peter Davison, Ty’s maternal grandfather, portrayed The Doctor from 1981 to 1984. At this time, it has become almost a family tradition thanks to Ty, who made a 2013 cameo appearance in the film The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot.
And if all of these ties to Doctor Who weren’t enough, Matt Smith, who plays Prince Daemon Targaryen, also played The Doctor. He came in at number eleven, straight behind David.
His actor credits are on fire
Tennant had already been working hard to obtain opportunities before House of the Dragon. He made his acting debut in the 2019 film Tolkien, playing a young Christopher Wiseman. In the same year, he had appearances on both the third-season television series War of the Worlds and Casualty.
After two years, he joined Matt Bomer and Brendan Fraser in Doom Patrol as Edwin Payne. He performed with his father in Around the World in 80 Days in 2021. Pretty bad for someone with only three years’ experience in the industry.
His younger sister is a budding actress
Ty is the oldest of five children, and his sister Olive has already appeared in Belfast, her second film. She co-starred with David in the 2017 film You, Me, and Him and is the oldest biological child of David and Georgia at just 11 years old.
Also, Ty’s mother posted a picture of him holding one of his sisters, demonstrating his role as a big brother. Ty’s attire also attracted a lot of attention to the picture. “Good Omens, the prequel,” Georgia wrote as the caption. Interesting fact: David and Michael Sheen co-starred in the television adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s novel Good Omens.
He is musically inclined
Despite the fact that he has a recent acting resume, his Instagram photographs reveal a long history of guitar playing. In various posts, he has displayed his collection of electric guitars, and he frequently uploads photos holding the well-known stringed instrument. Also, he shared a picture of himself and a friend during a Kiss concert.
He likes Kylo Ren and photography
Tennant has demonstrated his photographic prowess in addition to his guitar playing, publishing images of skylines, murals, his guitars, and nature among many other themes. In one post, he also displayed the Canon camera he uses.
