The second season of the epic anime series Vinland Saga, which recounts some significant events in Norse history, will premiere on January 9, 2023, according to a release.
Before updating its official website with important information about release platforms, the 2019 show—which had its premiere that same year—shared the information in a brand-new trailer.
According to that information, viewers outside of Asia will be able to watch Vinland Saga season two first on Netflix and the anime streaming service Crunchyroll.
As of right now, the Netflix release date for the show is listed as “to be streamed sequentially,” indicating that it will be made available to subscribers on a weekly basis.
The new trailer also included “River,” performed by Anonymouz, which will serve as the show’s new opening theme song.
The second season of the Vinland Saga will begin with Thorfinn working as a slave on a Danish farm after failing to exact revenge on Askeladd, the trailer for the season confirms once more. We also catch a glimpse of the expansion of (now-King) Canute the Great’s empire, which is the second main storyline in the Vinland Saga.
Initially available on Crunchyroll outside of Japan, Vinland Saga season one was later made available on Prime Video and Netflix (where it is now).
Instead of Wit Studio, the second season of the Vinland Saga is being made by the animation studio MAPPA, which also made Jujutsu Kaisen and the final season of Attack on Titan.
Despite this change, many of the original cast members are still working on the project, including writer Hiroshi Seko and director Shhei Yabuta.
The show is based on a hugely popular manga series by creator Makoto Yukimura, which won numerous anime awards after its first season aired.
You can watch the first season of Vinland Saga on Netflix.
