When gamers consider MMO (massively multiplayer online) games, World of Warcraft frequently tops their list of names. According to some statistics, World of Warcraft has over 4 million users every day and even reached 12 million active subscribers in 2010 with the release of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. WoW was first made available by Blizzard Entertainment in 2004. WoW’s subscription model is particularly appealing to new players since it allows them to initially play the game with a fair bit of freedom without having to immediately shell out money to do so.
However, WoW is not entirely free; by purchasing a World of Warcraft membership, players can access the most important features of the game, such as progressing past level 20. Players can access all of the MMORPG’s previously restricted areas and features, including all of the already-available World of Warcraft expansions, by paying a monthly charge. Some new or interested players may question how much a World of Warcraft membership costs in light of the fact that the most recent addition to the game, Shadowlands, has included a significant amount of new gameplay and endgame content.
Previously, gamers had to spend $40 on the base game for World of Warcraft, and either separately or in a bundle, they had to buy each expansion. In contrast, starting in 2018, Blizzard no longer mandates that players buy the original game or expansions separately, enabling complete access based on subscriptions. Players can choose to pay their World of Warcraft subscription fees monthly, every three months, or every six months, with each option’s price lowering the longer the interval between payments.
