Yellowstone Season 4 Ending: Kayce’s Visions Explained?

A thrilling fifth season of Yellowstone was teased at the end of season 4. Even though the final episode of Yellowstone season 4 is significantly less action-packed than any of the show’s other season finales, it still managed to set new marks for Paramount+ viewership and attract new viewers for NBC’s peacock streaming network. The result is that the show has been given a fifth season, which is anticipated to premiere in late 2022 or the first quarter of 2023. This is fantastic news for the programme because Yellowstone season 4’s finale mostly serves as a setup for what may turn out to be its most intriguing season ever.

With Market Equities CEO Caroline Warner (Jackie Weaver) determined to use the billions at her disposal to become the largest danger to the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and perhaps the Broken Rock Indian Reservation, Yellowstone season 4 comes to a close. The Duttons have gained control by winning Jamie’s (Wes Bentley) allegiance, but they risk losing Kayce (Luke Grimes), who can still decide to support his wife Monica’s (Kelsey Asbille) tribe. At the ranch, some solace can be found in the marriage of Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) and the blossoming romance between John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and young ranch worker Carter (Finn Little).

The Confederated Tribes of Broken Rock and the Duttons each face brand-new issues as Yellowstone season 4 comes to a close. There is indications that the battle for the Yellowstone Ranch will be decided by Kayce’s final decision between his two identities. Here is everything that viewers may have missed from Yellowstone season 4’s finale.

Jimmy And Carter’s Character Arcs Reveal What The Yellowstone Dutton Ranch Is Truly About

At its core, the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is a family. Jimmy (Jefferson White), a branded Yellowstone ranch worker, is finally able to become a man while working at the Four-Sixes Ranch after John understands this. As a result, John releases Jimmy from his debts and permits Jimmy to permanently depart the ranch with his fiancée Emily (Kathryn Kelly). In contrast, John’s desire for his legacy to be passed down to the next generation is represented by the teenage ranch hand Carter (Finn Little), who also stands in for Beth’s wish to become a parent. Carter and Jimmy’s character arcs hint that there may still be hope in Yellowstone season 5, in contrast to everything else the Duttons will experience.

Kayce’s Visions Foreshadow Death And Betrayal For Yellowstone Season 5

In Yellowstone season four episode 10 “Grass on the Streets and Weeds on the Rooftops,” Kayce goes through the Hanbleceya, also known as “weeping for a vision,” during which he has multiple visions. The Hanbleceya is actually one of the Lakota tribe’s seven holy rites and a rite of passage for young warriors. This will put Kayce’s devotion to the Duttons in jeopardy because he is now an official resident of the Broken Rock Indian Reservation. Kayce’s visions do in fact provide hazy predictions of what the future will hold, such as the two invisible routes that stand in for his two opposing personalities. This is similar to the dreams and visions of Dune protagonist Paul Atreides. In addition, while the owl Kayce saw in his dreams represents the afterlife and the spirit world, his visions of Lee Dutton (Dave Annable) and Avery (Tanaya Beatty) hint at betrayal and disloyalty in Yellowstone season 5.

Market Equities Could Force John Dutton And Thomas Rainwater Into A Permanent Alliance

The aggressive expansion plans of Market Equities were foiled by Beth, who infiltrated the company and compromised it. In the process, Beth turned Market Equities CEO Caroline Warner (Jackie Weaver), who is more than prepared to play the big bad villain in Yellowstone season 5, into a dangerous enemy. This is evidenced by her final words to Beth in the season 4 finale:

“You know what you’ve done, and I run the biggest private fund in the world,” I said. For me, you’ve personalised it. How much it costs or how long it takes doesn’t matter to me. Where your f***ing house is, I’m going to build a public restroom. Every tree will be cut down, and every brook will be dammed. I’m going to kill your ranch by raping it. You, you little b***h, will serve time in jail.

Market Equities stands for everything that John Dutton and Thomas Rainwater, the leader of Broken Rock (Gil Birmingham), oppose: the obliteration of Montana’s natural scenery for selfish financial gain. Market Equities also threatens to crush Thomas’ long-term hopes of regaining his people’s ancient grounds as Caroline Warner gets set to utilise the billions in her power to erect an airstrip and resort city over Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. John and Thomas may be forced to cooperate by Market Equities’ threat to ranchers and Indigenous American communities, setting the stage for a longer-lasting cooperation and perhaps even the reappearance of Angela Blue Thunder (Q’orianka Kilcher).

Summer’s Long Prison Sentence Reveals The Limits Of John Dutton’s Influence

While Jamie’s dubious devotion calls into question Beth’s authority, Summer Higgins’ (Piper Perabo) conviction and prison term suggest that John Dutton might not be as strong as his adversaries claim. Ironically, John and Beth would have handled things better if they had flipped the issues in Yellowstone season 4, episode 10 “Grass on the Streets and Weeds on the Rooftops.” It wouldn’t have taken John long to persuade Jamie to stick by the Duttons, and Beth would have found a way to lighten Summer’s sentence. This demonstrates how much John and Beth rely on one another, and how the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch will be destroyed if even one of them fails.

What Beth And John “Owning” Jamie Really Means

When Beth learns through Terrell Riggins (Bruno Amato) that Jamie was aware of his father Garret’s (Will Patton) plans to kill the Duttons but did nothing about it, Beth persuades Jamie to kill Garrett and then gathers proof of the patricide. As Beth explains to John, they now possess Jamie, which guarantees his loyalty to them—or at least, that’s what Beth believes. The ongoing antagonism between Jamie and Beth is a constant topic in Yellowstone, and it might come to a head in the upcoming season.

Jamie’s survival instinct can be used by Beth to win his devotion, but putting him in a tight spot is only going to make him more ambitious, especially with Christina (Katherine Cunningham) at his side. Furthermore, neither John nor Beth are aware that Jamie is a father, which in Yellowstone season 5 may be enough for John to reconsider his feelings for Jamie. In other words, Beth merely believes that Jamie is her property, even though the proof of his patricide might not be sufficient to keep Jamie under her control. Beth’s certainty that she “owns” her brother might turn out to be imprudent, especially in light of the way Jamie appears to be getting more adept at murder and hiding evidence with each new season.
