Despite fans’ clamour, Sony has yet to confirm that Uncharted 2 is in fact in development. However, if we adopt the attitude that “no news is good news,” we might still receive some.
But there’s more to this than just wild conjecture. In a Deadline interview, Sony CEO Tom Rothman initially referred to Uncharted as “a brand-new franchise for us.” The best laid plans, however, do not always pan out, and this proverb can be used to cast some doubt on Rothman’s ideas.
Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the movie grossed $400 million at the box office in early 2022, so that’s something that could still happen. Given that the movie debuted at a rocky time for the market, that number is impressive.
Currently, all we can do is wait for Sony to make the official announcement of Uncharted 2; in the meantime, here is all the information you require.
Uncharted 2 potential release date: When can we expect Uncharted 2?
You won’t be surprised to learn that we don’t have an official release date for Uncharted 2 either since there has been no official confirmation. We can make some educated guesses about a potential timeline using the first movie’s production dates as a guide, but it’s important to stress that this is all just conjecture.
Production on the first Uncharted movie started in July 2020 and ended in October of the same year. Retakes were done in July 2021. Beyond this, though, Uncharted’s release date underwent numerous changes before finally making its cinematic debut in February 2022, a full year and a half after it had finished filming.
Keeping this in mind, we could see Uncharted 2 in theatres around 2025 if production got underway in 2023. However, there is no assurance that the movie will be made, thus there are no set production dates either.
Holland, who plays the lead role in the movie, has revealed that he will take a short sabbatical from acting after finishing The Crowded Room for Apple. Given how much he has been working and the other projects he has coming up, such as Spider-Man 4, it’s difficult to blame him for seeking time off.
We’ll know more about when to say hello to Nate again if/when Sony confirms Uncharted 2.
Uncharted 2 cast: Who’s coming back for Uncharted 2?
Naturally, any hypothetical sequel would require Tom Holland to reprise his role as Nathan Drake. He is experienced with franchises, and just like his MCU appearances, Uncharted concludes with a tease for a prospective sequel. Victor “Sully” Sullivan, his mentor and father figure, would also make a comeback. Mark Wahlberg.
Sophia Ali, who briefly dated Nate in the second game’s Chloe Frazer, a treasure hunter, is also probably coming back. Their prospective romance was hinted at in the first film, but it concluded with them as rivals after Nate misled Chloe about where the wealth was.
Nate’s brother Sam, who Nate believes is dead (this was also a major plot point in the game Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End), was hinted at in the credits scene, but it is still unknown who will play him in the sequel, where Sam will undoubtedly play a bigger role.
Fleischer hinted that he has a “list of performers” who could portray Sam in an interview with CinemaBlend, but he did not explicitly state that Sam will appear in the sequel.
When asked if it will appear in the upcoming film, he said, “I couldn’t promise it, but it was incredibly essential to me that if we’re going to bring that character back, that in this picture, we respect the fact he’s alive.”
“I believed it was crucial to let the audience know he is still alive and well. Nate is unsure. He’ll learn this for himself someday and run into him again.”
Antonio Banderas as Moncada was killed by his own mercenary Braddock, played by Tati Gabrielle, so don’t look for Banderas to reprise the role. Braddock may have survived because we didn’t see her body, but she eventually perished when a ship fell on her.
Even while it’s doubtful, you can’t rule anything out in a world where Nate can jump off of a cargo plane and walk away unharmed.
Pilou Asbaek played a sketchy new antagonist named Gage in the second credits sequence. In the scene, Gage double-crosses Nate in a deal before Sully arrives to save the day. We speculate that Gage is still alive.
Elena Fisher, who serves as Nate’s primary love interest in the video games, may return in the sequel as a brand-new character. It appears likely that she will make an appearance in the film adaptations at some point because they end up getting married and having a daughter in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Rafe Adler, who is the major antagonist in A Thief’s End and has a history with the Drake brothers, might make a cameo if Sam does play a larger part in the sequel.
Given that the first film was based on this game but omitted Rafe, it’s possible that the second film will feature a different antagonist who was developed specifically for the film series and not at all based on any of the video games.
Uncharted 2 plot: How does Uncharted ending set it up?
Overall, Uncharted is an independent origin narrative because the bad guys are eliminated and Nate and Sully discover the wealth. Sully must forfeit his find in order to spare Nate’s life, although Nate left some gold for his new boss.
Sam was still alive in a prison cell when we saw the first credits scene, which served as a major sequel tease. It’s unclear from his postcard to Nate if he is advising him to “watch your back” in response to a potential threat or simply to be aware of Sully’s sketchy tendencies.
Sam and Sully had been searching for the treasure together when Sam was killed by Braddock. Sam was left behind to die by Sully, and we wouldn’t blame Sam for harbouring resentment.
However, aside from Sam’s significant reappearance in Nate’s life, there isn’t much information available regarding what might occur in the sequel. The first film was not a straight adaptation of any of the video games, although it was inspired by many elements from the series.
Although there are four more video games, including the second Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, to draw from, we doubt Uncharted 2 will directly adapt the games given that the movie changes how Nate and Sully met as well as Nate and Sam’s past. Instead, we anticipate that Nate and Sully will embark on a brand-new quest.
However, Fleischer has been hinting at scenes from the video game series that he’d want to adapt for the big screen, starting with the car chase from Uncharted 4.
“Uncharted 4 featured what I consider to be the best car chase ever recorded for any movie or other media. I’ve participated in a lot of automobile chases throughout my career, but that one is the best “He commended. “I intend to go after that one.”
Uncharted 2 trailer: Any Uncharted 2 footage yet?
It won’t come as a surprise to learn that there isn’t any Uncharted 2 gameplay yet, and since it hasn’t been announced, filming and an official trailer are still a ways off. Sorry.
Uncharted is currently available for purchase or rental via digital stores like Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store, and others.
