Despite being one of the best and most well-known directors of his generation, Christopher Nolan doesn’t believe that he will ever produce a TV show. French YouTuber Hugo Travers AKA HugoDécrypte asked filmmaker Christopher Nolan if he could ever develop a TV programme while promoting his new movie “Oppenheimer,” a biopic about the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man who invented the atomic bomb. Nolan responded, “No.”
Picture Source: BAFTA Guru Nolan has worked on a number of feature films as a producer or executive producer in addition to directing twelve of them, but he has never directed a television programme. The director has been in a few documentaries and has produced a few short films, but it appears that Nolan has no plans to enter the TV industry. His brother Jonathan Nolan is a well-known television personality who is most known for creating “Person of Interest” and co-creating “Westworld” and “Fallout.” He also co-wrote numerous of the director’s well-known movies, including “The Prestige,” “The Dark Knight,” “The Dark Knight Rises,” and “Interstellar.”
Earlier, Jorma Taccone, Will Forte, and John Solomon, the creators of Peacock’s “MacGruber,” claimed that they had approached Nolan about directing an episode of the action-comedy series but that he had turned them down. We pursued him tenaciously; for example, he sent us a really nice note but was unable to attend the table read despite our invitation. Sincerely, I’ve been too up his arse… He didn’t have time for that, but I wanted to see if he could get his throat torn out. We gave him the option to direct any episode [laughs]. Taccone told Collider, “I believe he has reached the stage where he is saying, ‘I’m not going to genuinely be a part of your world, but I do enjoy it.
Additionally, Nolan doesn’t appear to have the finest relationship with television. The motion-soothing feature of the television, which alters how the movie is shown to the audience at home, had previously caused the director to raise his voice. Nolan is not opposed to seeing films outside of cinemas, though. Nolan does make it plain that he feels it is OK to watch films on smartphones and laptops in the same interview he gave to Hugo.
Nolan wouldn’t make a TV show, but don’t be shocked if he decides to make a video game instead. A video game production is “definitely something I’m interested in,” the filmmaker said in 2020 during a ‘Tenet’ Q&A session. Additionally, he disclosed that he had even thought about creating a video game based on “Inception.” However, given that Nolan is currently focused on filmmaking, it might not be worthwhile to wait for a Nolan-made video game. “My time and energy, I’ve just wound up devoting it all to film and just seeing how difficult that is, so making a video game on top of that; it’s not something you’d ever take on lightly,” the director remarked during the same session.
After producing the internationally acclaimed “The Dark Knight” trilogy, Nolan is not interested in directing another superhero film in addition to a TV programme. ‘Batman Begins,’ ‘The Dark Knight,’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ are three of the most popular superhero movies ever made. Regardless of how well the three films go, Nolan currently seems to be interested in exploring new themes.
