American Fiction Filming Locations: A Cinematic Exploration

  • DCS

Cord Jefferson co-wrote and directed the comedy-drama film “American Fiction,” which is an adaptation of Pervical Everett’s 2001 novel “Erasure.” The story follows the travels of a professor and novelist named Monk, who is fed up with the system profiting from the same old obnoxious and stale stereotypes utilised in Black culture. He resolves to write a stereotypical Black book out of spite when it becomes too much for him.

After the book is released, it becomes extremely popular and draws attention from critics worldwide, thrusting Monk into the centre of the chaos that envelops it. In addition to helping to keep up with the rapidly paced story, the frequently shifting backgrounds pique viewers’ interest in the location of the filming.

American Fiction Filming Locations

The cast of ‘American Fiction’ used the towns of Scituate, Boston, and Brookline; the entire film was shot in Massachusetts. According to sources, work on the Jeffrey Wright film began in August 2022 and appeared to be completed in September of the same year, in a month or two. Let us now take you on a tour of every single location that appears in the comedy movie.

Scituate, Massachusetts

A large chunk of “American Fiction” was filmed at Scituate, a seaside hamlet in Plymouth County, Massachusetts. Turner Road was the specific location where a few sequences were filmed. In order to record a scene for the comedy-drama movie, the production crew also travelled to the charming neighbourhood of Sand Hills, which is situated in the town between Cedar Point and Egypt Beach. A popular destination for travellers and filmmakers worldwide, Sand Hills is home to the immaculate beach with the same name. It also provides breathtaking views of the ocean and captivating dawn and dusk scenes.

Peggotty Beach, one of Scituate’s most beautiful beaches, served as the setting for the movie “American Fiction.” The cast and crew took advantage of the pleasant weather and gentle breezes while filming, looking out at the waves breaking onto the half-mile stretch of white sand beach. Tucked away in the heart of Plymouth and Boston, this relaxed beach town is renowned for its gorgeous coastline, quiet beaches, a plethora of hiking trails, delicious seafood, historic sites, lighthouses, and its Irish heritage, which has earned it the moniker “The Irish Riviera.”

Overall, Scituate takes great pride in its airy appeal, which helps visitors forget the bustle of the big city for a little while. The city was chosen for more than one production, including “American Fiction,” to shoot there. The charming hamlet of Scituate has been the setting for several films over the years, including “Good Kids,” “Matriarch,” “The Love Guide,” “Getting Personal,” and “Pandora’s Charm.”

Boston, Massachusetts

The Massachusetts state capital, Boston, was also visited by the “American Fiction” film crew. In particular, the actors and crew made use of the corner of Congress and A Streets, camping out in the Fort Point neighbourhood. In addition, a few outside images feature the Longfellow Bridge, a steel rib arch bridge that crosses the Charles River to link Cambridge, Massachusetts’ Kendall Square neighbourhood with Boston’s Beacon Hill neighbourhood. Further scenes for the comedy movie were also shot in the West Roxbury neighbourhood. Beyond “American Fiction,” Boston has served as a production hub for a number of motion pictures and television series over the years. “The Proposal,” “Godmothered,” “I Care a Lot,” “With Honours,” and “Wellmania” are a few of the noteworthy ones.
